All 5 legs on my brittle star are broken off and he's now laying on the bottom of the tank in a heap. I may have moved some rocks during a recent water change, but all 5 legs? At roughly same length? I added 6 emerald crabs, a lawnmower blenny, and 20 snails recently. Could the emerald crabs to this? Biggest was about 1.5 inch. I have plenty of algae I was hoping they would take care of, and they've been eating voraciously. I haven't seen them on the rocks at all. They've been on the plenum and reaching up for algae. (I have another tank when they are done with this one.) Not that I really mind a dead brittle star. He's getting to a dangerous size and I still have an unexplained disappearance of two yellow tails. Tristan, You've really surprised me. The problem with troll hunting is that you need to drop down to the level of the troll to fight them.
