Ok so maybe they aren't really proper reef fish, but I think they work well.
So...  just asked google and

http://www.saltcorner.com/sections/zoo/mollies.htm has a good write up on
using in marine tanks

http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-85778.html
quick mention of use as a cycle fish

http://saltwatermollies.com/about1.php  'The grace and beauty of mollies
should be experienced by marine aquarists. A tank with live coral and
mollies is hard to beat and not that difficult to maintain.'

http://www.nhaquariumsociety.com/Articles/marinemollies.html just a quick
discussion on them

http://okcaa.org/articles/zero.pdf document on zero maintence marine
aquarium using mollies

I really like them myself and think they are a great way to get more people
into the marine hobby.
To see an adult male dalmation lyretail sailfin swimming thru softys is
pretty cool.
And for me, once they went in marine water they were unkillable. I actually
had a few times where my freshwater ones were losing the odd one each day
while the marine ones never skipped a beat.
Making me think that mollies are a better marine fish than a freshwater
fish.

The only thing I don't like about mollies is the fact they produce a lot of
waste,  being second after goldfish.

My two cents on my own experience.

Don;t argue with Pszemol. He knows everything there is about anything.
He learned it all from Wayne at Wayne's Dead Pets

I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know!
