Are Targetfish likely to kill others in a marine aquarium such as clowns? They get to be 9 inches long. They have been documented as being aggressive. I've never kept them myself. Personally I don't see why anyone would desire one. Because of cost and their toughness they make a good school for octopus tanks. if they become feeders, so be it, but they are usually fine in larger tanks. Raise them from a few cm long and they are fine in tanks. Larger ones caught on rod and reel are not so easy to get to calm down to aquarium life. Much better fish for a little kid who wants a 'shark' than a bloomin' suicidal whitespot magnet like a silver shark! They are probably the hardiest of all fishes that can be kept in a sea aquarium, feeding with great exuberance on all foods. They can become rather boisterous and may subdue the more delicate true reef fishes such as the butterfly fishes so that they hide and slowly starve to death. They are usually low-priced and so are an excellent first choice for the novice aquarist. They are not brilliantly coloured but because they frequently school, a dozen or so in a large tank is an impressive sight."
