I recently added a CoraLive turbotwist 9watt to my sump to fight the
pest algae in my tank (cyno mostly) Anyone have any experiance with
these or similar units? How long before they make a difference? I am
running it with an 802 powerhead 24 hours a day. Its in my 20 gal sump
(66gal tank)

i dont know the specifics for you uv unit but an 802 pushes close to 400
gph, thats way to much flow IMO for a 9w unit.

unfortunately cyno VS UV the cyno is going to win,

the UV is only going to effect things that get sucked into it.

you will have better luck increasing waterflow and lowering nutrient levels.

I have the 802 cranked all the way down to the lowest flow setting so
I dont think its too high.. I have a 202 here I could use too....

UV sterilizers work best when the water flows through them at a very slow
rate.

Not sure about cyano but I have had good luck with UV sterilizers helping
with algae- after I cleaned my glass and put the algae back in the water, I
could tell if my UV sterilizer was running as it would affect how long it
took for the grass to get scummy again. That's something of a stop-gap
measure though since you still leave all those nutrients in the system and
they simply get consumed by something else at some point.

I don't run that particular tank anymore but it was a 220G tank with very
heavy lighting which made the algae somewhat difficult to control at times.

Well I read up on cyno... and tested my tank. Phosphates are 0,
Nitrates are 0 and NO2 and NO3 are zip. The only thing I have changed
in the tank are the lights... I have to VHO URI Super Actinics and two
6500K NO Phillips on an Icecap 660. The 6500K are new to me.. I used
to run the URI VHO actinic whites. I tried the 6500Ks as they are
quite cheap.. but I am going back to the URIs. I never had this
problem in my old tank. I have a 402 and a 202 power head running as
well as the return from the sump. There appears to be good flow....
