I would like to keep guppies in a 2 gallon fish bowl as one would a Betta?

Thanks.

Not a good idea.
Guppies cannot breathe surface air, like Bettas can. That's why they
can *survive* in a bowl.
Guppies aren't.
Both types of fish need warm water and require heaters. This is why
bettas don't thrive in a cold bowl, and are pretty blah.
For Guppies, you need a filter and heater.
Bettas, on the other hand thrive in a filtered, heated tank. The
bigger the better.
Basically, the only thing a bowl should be used for is holding a fish
that needs removing when doing a water change.

Thank you.

I do have 2 bettas in their own 2 gallon heated tanks, but I
think that I will now pass on getting some guppies. Thanks again.

Good choice Anne.  = )

And GOOD JOB on heating your bettas!
Bettas are quickly becoming more abused than goldies are.
So much misinformation out there about them.
Heck 90% of folks these days don't even pronounce betta right.  = /

Anne,
Just curious as to how you heat the 2 gallon tanks. The heaters I've seen
look too big for these small tanks.
Thanks,
Bob

I have a Hydor mini heater. It heats the tank about 6 deg. warmer than
the house temp. You can get it at Petco.  You can also look up
www.hydor.com.

I would think you can, and at least a breeding pair.

I have a bunch of 2-1/2 gallons mini tanks a rear guppies in.  The work
great.  I simply confine the adults in a plastic v-breeder box, when the
female delivers, I move the adults along to the next 2-1/2 gal aquarium.

However, they DO make undergravel filters for fish bowls, I would use
one of these.  In my 2-1/2 gals I use the tetramin, fully submersible,
50w heaters--these heaters say they can be used in as small as 2 gal
containers.  They have worked well for me for a long time.

Not only can you keep guppies in a 2 gal container, with a couple, or
more, I should think you would have success at breeding them ...

JS

As long as you provide filtering and heat, why not?

JS.....

You honestly think advising a person that it's fine to keep Guppies in
a 2 gallon BOWL....she didn't say this was a 2 1/2 gallon, rectangle
shaped glass tank.
Of course one of those could work. I have several that I spawn Bettas
in, raise both betta or Angelfish fry in,  so it can be done.
However, the Q was about a 2 gallon bowl.
