Tropiquarium Hood Problem

I was given some time ago a small Tropiquarium tank (20x10x12 wxhxd)
while feeding the fish the other day I noticed steam rising from the
under side of the hood and found the ballast for the light was on the
way out, whilst I was checking the rest of the lighting circuit great
chunks of the white material that the underside of the hood is made
from just fell away now the tube will no longer attach to the hood,
(I've temporarily got round this by using another starter I had lying
around) Are the hoods on these (for want of a better word) 'modular'
tanks replaceable? or dose it mean changing the whole set up
(something I don't particularly want to do)
Many thanks.
Ford.

You should be able to replace your hood with a 'marina' brand unit.

I get mine from the LFS, and have had no problems in three years.

Thanks Dave, only thing my tank has rounded corners and all the
electrics (for the fluvel filter and the heater) run into a 'choc
block' built into the hood.

Two thoughts:

The marina hood can be cut with a junior hacksaw. It is how I made extra
cutouts for the filter hanger.
You could 'round' the corners to fit.

Can you undo the electrics from their 'choc-box' and fit them into a new
switching unit?

That's what I thought I might have to do but was hoping I might just
be able to replace like for like, especially as the original fitted
into grooves around the top of the tank and had a built in
condensation tray.
