Thanks very much I have emailed them, will see what they say, so you
don't think I'm in any immediate danger of damage to the tank ?

I had this happen on a rio 400 & it bowed alarmingly - but juwel reassured
me it would be OK & it has been since I replaced the bars - but I would get
it sorted as soon as poss just to be on the safe side!

See post here 10/1/2006 - Juwel Tank struts and the follow up posts.
-------------------------------
I've just had the fright of my life.
I was sitting reading with my back to my Rio 400 (which is head height, just
behind the sofa I was sitting on), when I heard an almighty bang !
Once I'd calmed down I discovered both of the struts that go across the tank
had come away, and now the front at the top is leaning about a quarter of an
inch out.
The tank has not been moved (yet), it's not over filled (400 litres to the
fill line ), so why has it done this and what's best to put them back.
Sillicone or superglue ?
Help !

It would seem that Juwel have a quality problem.

Heh, that was my post.
I emailed Juwel who (very quickly indeed) sent me two spare struts and some
super glue.
All now seems well, though it had happened before to my Rio 240.
After I glued the Rio 400 we lifted it on the cabinet and rolled it across
the room with about 5-6" of water plus the gravel, ornaments, and fish still
in it.
Touch wood it's been fine.
Is you like, let some of the water out.
Keep enough for the filter to go, and drop the heater from the top lip of
the filterbox to the seperator
That will take a bit of strain off the front, though mine was fine.
You should be OK.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks very much, I hadn't seen the earlier posts, I searched for brace not
strut so it didn't come up. I email Juwel in Germany yesterday, no reply
as yet. Am going to give them a call as I just found their UK number.

When they send you the strut(s), you may want to have a few practice goes
before applying the glue as it sets very quickly.

Thanks for posting this,, as I am considering a Rio tank at some stage in
the near future. Out of interest how old is the tank ??
Martin - 27 Feb 2006 12:19 GMT
The tank is just over two years old, so it is a bit dissapointing that
I've had this problem, especially as it seems quite common.
I have however just gotten off the phone with Juwel and they straight
away said no problem they would send me a replacement and some glue free
of charge.
I will however be looking out for straight forward glass braces on tanks
in future, I just don't think the flimsy plastic is strong enough.
Have to say I'm don't think I've ever had so many responses to a posting
about fishy stuff on a newsgroup or anywhere so thanks very much guys.
