This morning my Akita's tail was staright out and wouldn't curl over
the rear haunches. She seemed to be in some discomfort when I tried
to "curl" it. Otherwise she seems fine...eating well, walking OK,
taking water, alert.
Any ideas???
TIA

Let us know what the vet says. My breed curls it's tails over it's backs,
and when they don't curl... it's always a good indicator that something is
very wrong.

Cold tail?

or maybe even anal gland problems.

I took her to the vet yesterday. Vet gave her tail a physical test
and said there did not appear to be any damage. He checked her rectum
and did a cytology test on the rectum. No problems it seems. He
suggested Metamucil to ease her bowel movements. There had been some
light traces of blood in her stool (she had been eating grass a lot
yesterday.
Today she has been more active and alert and the tail almost got up
when she spotted a dog in the back of the house. But it is still
droopy.
Thanks Camaro

Glad to hear you got a thorough check from the vet. I also have a breed
with a tail that should curl over its back. Tails will droop when animal is
ill, stressed, or generally unhappy, but I have also had a couple who had
"sprained" tails as puppies. Apparently too much rough play and pulling on
the tails left them drooping for a few days. Fortunately it was a temporary
situation!

Akita is much more alert than she has been and stools have been
without blood. Vet had said she might have a touch of colitis.
Eating well and enjoying the things we nomally do. Occasionally the
tail is flipping up but subsides and droops again though not as
persistent as on Monday.
Thanks for your info
