It is time for an annual check up for my 5 yr. old Maine Coon Cat (neutered)
and 3 yr. old DSH (spayed). Both are indoor cats, active and healthy as far
as I know. What vaccinations do I need them to have? What about rabies?
Blood work?

Boy, there's as many answers to this as there are immunologists......As far
as the vaccines, a lot of states require rabies vaccines, so that one you
may not have a choice about getting. However, you can make sure they get
the non-adjuvented version of the vaccine, which is thought to have a lower
risk of causing vaccine-related sarcoma. There is also an intranasal
version of the feline distemper vaccine that avoids another jab if they're
due for that. I find that sometimes the vet forgets to warn on the side
effects with that one- a week to ten days later, they may sneeze their
little heads off for a day or so. No big deal there, it goes away by
itself. Your kids are both a little young to need bloodwork, unless you
have noticed anything unusual lately (unexplained weight loss, an increase
in water intake/urine output, etc.)
