Katie is an 8 1/2 year old Chow who hasn't been eating well (she gets a
small breakfast and supper) for a few weeks. For the past week she really
hasn't eaten at all and has had some throwing up of yellowish liquid
sometimes with undigested dry food. We went to the vet on Sat. and he did
urine sample and blood work. Urine sample showed some red blood cells so
she's now supposed to be taking Baytril. Blood work was within normal
limits except he thought PLT were a little low (134 - Normal range listed at
120-600)
I don't have a diagnosis and she is still not eating and is very difficult
to pill. I have tried the usual (putting pills down throat with peanut
butter or ground beef, putting pills in smoked turkey chunks, putting pills
in mix of boiled rice and ground beef) She is a Chow and very good at
regurgitating pills or eating around them.
I don't know what is wrong with her, and I don't know what to do to get her
to eat.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Update on Katie:
Chest xray showed evidence of "something" pushing on her esophagus so
instead of going straight , there is a bump. We're going to an internist
next week. I'm not sure what this person will do or what I should ask about.
Again I'd appreciate any comments.

Just red cells? Nothing else?
And how 'bout radiographs? Were any taken?

Yes, see my 2nd note: "something" is pushing on the esophagus. And vet
thought liver might look a little small? We see the specialist next week.
She seems to be doing a little better with 3 small meals a day but does not
have a normal (or really adequate) food intake by any means.
