I would mix HALF peroxide and tap water, and gently irrigate it. Then put
some triple antibiotic ointment on it thin, not big gobs. He may lick it
off, but you can't control that. He probably won't keep a dressing on it.
Just keep it clean and try not to let him wallow in the mud or dirt.
Look for signs and symptoms of infection - redness at site, swelling, foul
drainage - green or brown in color, heat at the site, sensitive to touch,
fever, lethargy. IF these occur you do need to take him to the vet as the
bone may get infected. I speak from experience because our dog got it,
developed osteomyeltis. ( he had care as soon as we noticed an injury,
antibiotics, wound care.)
Wounds should heal from the outside edges toward the center.

Wounds heal by contraction, granulation and epithelialization. Wounds that
are left open are far less likely to become infected than those that are
closed. Hydrogen peroxide is great because it makes all those nice bubbles -
you feel like it's really doing something. It isn't, but 1/4 strength or
less isn't likely to hurt anything either. Antibiotic ointment - go for it
if it makes you feel better.
You probably should shave the hair around the wound - that would be useful.
Otherwise, keep it simple. Soap and water, change the bandage.
