My Charlie has just been diagnosed with having crystals in urine, so is
advised to drink more water (+special food). Since he doesn;t really drink
much, and apart from mixing water in his dry food-which he is getting used
to, how else do you give your cats water?

1.Bath/sink taps open
2.water dish
3.water in dry food
4.???????

Any ideas pls. He MUST have more water, or this might escalate to
obstruction or bladder stones :(

Tnx

Common presumption, but a wrong one, he was on both dry and wet food
already, not just dry,24/7. I have also  wearied food a lot, for all of
them. I think he just doesn't drink enough +predisposition. Other 2 boys on
same diet are fine.

He is now on a strict Hills prescription diet "Urinary LP34" dry food which
I deep in water,  as well as same type wet food(which he is not impressed
with at all). He's just getting used to having his biscuits  all wet and
saggy :(

Gosh my mind has certanly been preoccupied with events this week   , I just
noticed, its not Hills at all! Its Waltham Veterinary diet "Urinary LP34" :)

so you're saying that canned food does not have more water in it than dry?

just because the other cats don't have the same problem doesn't really mean
anything.... I have systemic lupus.. only one in my family.  When my
daughter gets sick, my son doesn't get sick.  One child can be born w/a
birth defect and the others are fine.
I'd switch food.  You can lead a cat to water but can't make him drink.

No, nobody said that!!! How on Earth did you come to that conclusion???? Pls
re-read my whole post(s).

When I said "common presumption", it meant that its a common presumption
that a cat was fed ONLY on dry food before getting this desease. Charlie had
had both wet and dry and still got crystals.

> just because the other cats don't have the same problem doesn't really mean

Again, not what I said. I stated that "I think he just doesn't drink enough
+predisposition" which is probably a good part of the reason why he got it
and others didnt, which more or less is the same that you are saying.

> I'd switch food.

As I said in previous post, that was already done and hes now on Walthams
Urinary , both dry and wet, and its working.

I don't know what is so funny to you, but I'm guessing its X-mas getting to
you.

I wonder if you'll find it so funny next time your cat or kid has a life
threatening disease.
Nicole H - 23 Dec 2004 05:53 GMT
yep, it's hilarious.  hahahahahhohohoho
regardless of what anyone says here, you're the type who's never satisfied,
never happy, always argumentative.... another for the killfile

Good. Cos you are sad sad sad. A person who is laughing at someone else's
pain is pathetic. Keep laughing.... What goes around, comes around.

> regardless of what anyone says here, you're the type who's never satisfied,

What should I be satisfied, your stupid comments? Non existant advice to a
serious problem?Which part of your post(s) was half decent exactly? You
didnt even read my posts, yet you ARE making stupid comclusions and useless
comments. Including this one!

> never happy,

Oh I see. You laughing at my pain is suppose to make me happy.Ah,yes. i see
how that works... IN YOUR HEAD ONLY!

>always argumentative....

Get a grip nicole. If you are going to come here and annoy people with  some
ludacris comments, do not expect them to sit back and take it. You are,
after all, the one who started some stupid argument first. Nobody else did!
Just you! Sodon;teven try twisting thingsaround, cos it just wont cut it
with me.

> another for the killfile

So yes I think I will killfile you becuase I simply do not need your cr#py
behaviour and schisophrenic  laughing on top of problems Im going through
already. If you can;t help, SHUDDUP!

Geez! I really despair! I hate blasted trolls!

A cat fountain might entice him to drink more.  It cats like running water
over standing water and often enjoy these fountains.

........canned food

........defatted unsalted chicken broth is good too.  You can make your own
by boiling a few chicken parts to death, put in fridge, then take the fat
off.

He did eat wet adn dry food always.  He was nev er on strict dry food. Now

And if the cat really likes the broth -- or any other liquid, such as
milk or the liquid from a can of tuna or salmon -- dilute it with
water so that the cat drinks more.

You could also try meat-based baby food, diluted or otherwise. Check
the ingredients to make sure that everything is suitable for cats.
