I have an 8yr. old over weight cat who for the last 4 days hasn't eaten. She
follows me to her room as if to get fed but when I give her food she just
looks at it and walks away. She acts as if she wants something else. I have
been trying different things, I even tried to give her milk last night and
that didn't even get eaten.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Do cats just decide they don't like the
food they've been eating forever????

Thanks to anyone who replies

I would get her to a vet as soon as you can.  When cats don't eat organs
become damaged very quickly (i.e. Fatty Liver Disease aka hepatic
lipidosis).  I call your vet.

***Angela, Take her to the vet, ASAP. I'm not* a vet, but as a golden rule
you can almost always go by, and be aware of, any* change, such as in:
eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, sleeping too much, or too little.

Also, note if there are any physical or outward changes, such as, suddenly
hidding or sleeping in another area of the house. Are the eyes clear or or
they skwinty or have a discharge?  Like a humans, these basic signs are
often red flags that we need to take heed to. Good luck and please keep us
posted.

........no, cats don't usually act this way about food unless they're ill.
It's really dangerous for overweight cats in particular to go without food
because they get hepatic lipidosis.  If that happens you're in a crisis
situation.

......get the most nutritious canned food you can find and try force feeding
her.  Some cats start a fast because they feel a bit ill, then forget to
start eating again.  I had a semi-feral cat go through that.  I had to
resort to painting her with food on a pastry brush tied to a long stick
because I can't handle her.  If a cat is still grooming, they'll lick it
off.  Cleaning herself was enough to start her eating again.  In her case it
would have been severe trauma to trap her and take her to the vet.  She went
through enough trauma with me following her around with a stick!  She was OK
after that and the incident has never been repeated.

......wrap your kitty in a towel and use your finger to put a small amount
of food in her mouth.  Give her time to swallow, and repeat.  I wouldn't
give her too much to start.  She might start eating on her own after that.
She could probably use a vet visit though.  But she'll probably have to be
force fed anyway at some point.
