Solid Gold dog food?

Hi,

I'm thinking of changing my 11-month-old Dane's food to see if that helps
with her recurrent skin problem and recurrent vaginitis, especially as she
seems to improve with a daily yoghurt-cultures drink.

Her food failed that grading system posted here and there, most recently on
my Great Danes group, miserably. I got it because someone on the Dutch group
recommended it, a breeder I met also recommended it, and it has lower
protein than the one her breeder was feeding. But it is mostly chicken and
corn, and has, I have now seen, "vegetable by-products"--what's that, sticks
and bark??

Anyway, most of the ones people seem to swear by aren't available here.
Chicken Soup, Eagle Pack, Wellness, Canidae, etc. One person recommended
Royal Canin Giant, but it has 35% protein! To get below 25% I'd have to feed
her Royal Canin Medium Breed Senior.

But I have found that I can order Solid Gold. Is this a very good food (it
looks like one), and if so, should I try the flakes (lamb based), the
Mmillennium (beef based), or the one I somehow find myself leaning toward,
the Wolfking (bison based)? What are some other foods I should try to find
instead, if they're better?

Thanks,
Katrina

I like Innova.  It's great for putting weight on thin dogs (first rescue
bloodhound was 25 lbs underweight when picked up).  Since it's so
digestible, you feed so much less than a supermarket dog food.
My 120lb only got 4 cups a day- in 2 meals.
My 70 lb labrador got 2 cups

Nutro Max or Nutro Choice are good choices too.
I feed my new rescue ( bloodhound- 40 lbs underweight) Nutro Max Large
Breed.  It has glucosamine and chondrotin in it.
My other dog, pitbull, is on Nutro Max Senior.
Cat is on Nutro Max Senior cat food also.

It's a good food, not bad price wise (you don't feel a lot of this
either).... I usually get a 37 lb bag for 20$ on sale.

This site can compare various foods

I know a lot of people feed Nutro, Diamond, California Natural, Innova and
Canidae.

Thanks. Saskia doesn't need to gain any weight, but she doesn't need to lose
any either. Meanwhile, though, of the usually suggested premium foods--like
those you mention--so far I have only found Solid Gold to be available here
in the Netherlands. Looks like I'll be switching to that, if she likes it.
Thanks,
Katrina
