My 7 year old cat has been off color for the last few days - generally
a bit lethargic, quiet, and vomiting. Last night he ended up at the ER
vet because he vomited 5 times during the afternoon.
He was checked over, found to have a temperature of 104*F and given a
synulox shot (amoxycilin) and a dose of metacam. He has further synulox
tablets until he sees his regular vet Monday.
He's only thrown up once since last night, but he's listless, doesn't
want to eat, and is clearly feeling lousy. He doesn't appear to have
diarrhea - he certainly hasn't gone in his box.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what it could be or whether I need to
think of other angles?
Cheers

He should eat something - cats who don't eat get liver damage. Give him
anything that might appeal to him - try tuna or some other wet food that
has a strong smell. Also he should drink - dehydration could
complicate matters.

Have him see his regular vet.

A fever can make some cats feel lousy.
Does he have a respiratory infection? One of my cats did vomit when she had
a respiratory infection. She scares me when she has a fever because she
gets very lethargic.

We got to the bottom of it last night. He ended up back at the ER vet
as he was lousy all day. We checked him over again, and it turned out
that his anal glands had become infected and an absess was staring to
develop. The vet sorted it out, gave him some more antibiotics,
painkiller and anti-inflamatory, and he sees his regular vet tomorrow.
Vomiting has stopped, and he felt well enough to eat. He's also kept
the food down.
My thanks to those who replied.
