Hi,

I am doing a research project on pet diagnostics products for diseases
like heartworm, CAV, CCV, FiVP, FPV etc. and would like to know what
vets think about the products from manufacturers like Synbiotics,
IDEXX, Agen, Heska etc.

Specifically, my questions are:

Is there one company that stands out above the rest in terms of product
quality and price?
Are the test kits from the diferent manufacturers comparable?
Why do you chose the products that you use?

Any perspectives on this would be really helpful!

Thanks!

Personally, I hate IDEXX.  I worked in a clinic that had all the toys from
IDEXX.  Results start becoming questionable especially with the T4 machine.
You had a classic hypothyroid dog, but T4 on the machine was normal.  Send
it to lab and T4 was very low.  We did three comparison studies with the in
house T4 machine and independent lab and the majority of the results were
completely different.  Makes me wonder how long we were or weren't treating
animals that needed it.  It also doesn't help that our rep sucked big time.
Him and I got in fights all the time and he won't even look in my directions
at conferences anymore.  We looked into getting Heska machines but the vet
that owned the clinic wasn't really into trying new things so that idea
didn't fly.
