My 18 year old cat, Big Guy, has started showing signs of his age
recently. I took him to the vet because he seemed to be losing weight
and he wasn't eating as eagerly as usual. After 10 days on Antirobe for
gum infection, I took him back for bloodwork. Everything looks really
good except for

CPK = 882  (56-529)
Globulin = 5.5  (2.3 - 5.3)
WBC = 3.0  (3.5 -16)
RBC = 9.95  (5.92 - 9.93)
Platelet count = 182  (200-500)
Neutrophils = 690  (2500-8500)

My vet wants to run FeLV and feline aids tests as she thinks he has one
of the two.

He's an indoor cat who does go outside when he wants during the day, but
he stays close and my dog keeps other cats out of the yard. He has lived
with FeLV positive cats, the last who died at age 9 three years ago.

I realize he's no spring chicken and I'll have the tests done, but of
course I'm hoping someone will think of something not quite so deadly to
look for.

Peace,

Kate

.........What would he do for your kitty if he found FeLv or FIV?  Now I'm a
person who wants to know what's going on, but sometimes I wonder if it's
worth it to find out.  I'd try offering high quality tasty food 4 times a
day and see if that helps.  I have a kitty with kidney problems who just
passed 19 1/2 and I think if she didn't eat 4 times a day she'd be gone.
Every once in a while she shows disinterest in food so I spice it up with
freeze dried liver powder.  Her appetite seems best after 10 pm at night.

.....sometimes it's the little things that make the difference.

best of luck to you and your oldster

Well, she did indicate there wasn't a big rush, but that by knowing she
would be better able to provide palliative care.

I'm a bit concerned about the food. He's had urinary blockages in the
past and I certainly don't want to put him through that. I've been
adding a wee amount of Fancy Feast to his low magnesium food but that
stopped working, as did the roasted turkey. Last night and this morning
he did eat AD.

I'll try feeding him more often - thanks for the suggestion.
