i posted earlier, below about the healing problems of my 31/2 yr. old
female pitbull. yesterday i thought she was out of the woods. today i
checked her and her scare that looked like a small eye socket looked
larger and had something coming out. no bleeding. but, looked sick! took
her back to the vet. the something coming out was blood clots. the vet
removed the blood clots . not much bleeding if at all. then proceeded
to stick his finger in the hole to see how deep it was and to check the
internal scar. really she seemed not to be in any pain. just stressed
out from going to the vet. basiclly he said to keep an eye on it , make
sure it dos,nt start bleeding. he did not close the hole. she is on
antibiotics. i checked her about 30mins. ago there is some clear fluid
drainage, but no blood. am at my witts end! the vet said this is only
the second time in 25 yrs. he has seen anything like this. i know pits
have bad reputations, but this is one of the nicest, sweetest dogs i
have ever knowen. i really want her to get through this! with
everything happening she seems normal. eats real good. just she still
has this dam! hole! its been 2 weeks and two days since her surgray{
spay}. 4 days since her stiches was removed. please! anyone got any
suggestions? any one been thru this? should i seek a second opinion?
money is geting alittle low. i,ll be watching for feed back. thanks!

..........2 weeks is a long time for it not to have healed. Didn't you say
your vet didn't run any bloodwork before surgery? I wonder about running a
blood panel.
.......is she licking the wound? Maybe she was reacting to the stitches and
now that they're out it will finally heal up. I had this sort of thing
happen to a cat once with dissolvable stitches. Ask him what kind of suture
material he used in case your dog ever has to have surgery again - may be
something to look out for in the future.
......Is your pit mostly white? Sometimes white coated dogs (like bullies)
have skin problems. I think I'd add some salmon oil to her food - a source
of essential fatty acids, which may help nourish the skin enough to heal.
.......How's the diarrhea? I'd keep up with the probiotics for now.
.......oh and don't panic, her insides aren't going to fall out!

i was scared to even look at it last night. but, to my relive the wound
looked pretty good! not held open[ which i think the blood clots were
doing]. looked cleaner and more natural. had some clear drainage.
hopefully she is on her way to full recovery. i have not had a chance
to look today , she is still asleep. thanks for the support.

I have seen animals have allergic reactions to the kind of sutures that were
used to close them up. Sometimes the sutures would break apart due to
stress in the incision site. Keep an eye on her gums color that they are
not pale due to internal bleeding ( but I don't think she is its been awhile
since her sugery). Or, I know this happens, sometimes the surgeon doesn't
close the incision with enough sutures.
