Hello all Vets,
My female Beagle is just around 3 years old. She has what i believe to
be an extended palate and keeps going into these "snorting" episodes.
They do not seem to hurt her, other than making her stop what she's
doing for the minute or three it lasts. Afterwards, she's fine. My
wife thinks we should get her operated on to correct the problem,
provided there is a correction available. Do any of the Veterinarians
in the group know of such a procedure and about what it costs? If it
is harmful I'll spend whatever it takes to fix it, however, if it does
her no harm then, well, you know where I'm going. I just hate to see
her in ANY discomfort whatsoever.
Thank you all,
Al

........sounds like reverse sneezing. Has a vet ever noticed that she has
some sort of abnormality?

No, he just said it's from apiece of skin and has no ill effects. Then
upon researching it a lot, I found and extended palate could be the
problem. I haven't had her into see him for that. I live near many
animal hospitals, Ijust don't want to go downtown to UofP or into
Bucks County for this other well known animal hospital before I get
more information. I'm most concerned that it doesn't hurt her.

If your dog has an elongated soft palate, a staphlectomy can take care of
it. You'd need a sedated oral exam to confirm it. I'd also caution you to
have it fully worked up by someone who is either boarded or very good at
respiratory issues first.
