Hi there -

I have a male cat who is 2 years old. On Sunday, I noticed he was
sleeping more than usual so I took him to the vet on Tuesday when
there was no change.

We found out he lost 2 pounds sine March and was dehydrated. So we ran
all the blood tests, Feline Aids and Leukimia, as well as an Xray. He
had 102 temp and a slightly enlarged kidney but the vet said there was
nothing in the bloodwork to say he was having a problem. There was no
fluid in the lungs so we left with an Apetite stimulant.

It's Thursday now and he has NO energy. He is eating and drinking but
something is def wrong. He urinated once today but have not seen any
bowel movements.

Anyone had any idea what this sounds like? I have been researching
everything from Kidney failure to Poison to Depression. Please help!
He's my angel!

Thanks!

If I were in your shoes, I'd be asking another vet for his/her opinion.

Did he check for parasites?

There's nothing like that $300+ set of  tests to pad a vets purse.
I did that way too many times, with no help from the vet.
I did find out that if any of those diseases are found, there's no
treatment.  I have refused it.

I learned more about cat food from a womens TV show called 'the Shopping
Bags' than I did from the vet in 15 years.

When a cat gets dehydrated, they don't feel like eating.  Put the cat on
small amounts of wet food frequently during the day, and water in at least a
couple of locations.  If possible, filter the water or use rain water.
Watch to see which the cat prefers.

102 is not a high temperature for a cat.

Best-o-luck!

Thanks - yes he is still really out of it this morning so I am seeing
another vet. I have been giving him water with an eye dropper. He his
not himself at all. But now it also seems like he is not interested in
food despite his apetite meds. His urine is a dark yellow color. He
has not been getting in and out of the catbox. I am pretty sure he is
going outside of the box but have not seen it myself.

I found some fecal matter outside the box and did not see any sign of
tapeworm. He has an allergy to fleas which has flared up badly in the
past but seems almost gone at the moment.

We have switched his food last week some time but have changed back
since then. I give him dry food.

Also, I have a prickly agave and a Lantana plant in my garden. I
researched posion but he would be vomitting and have blood in his
fecal matter, both syptoms I have not seen.

If you have any more ideas that would be great. Thanks!

He may have a Kidney infection. That gives dark urine and back ache. I
know from my experience and my cat's. (Although she was lethargic which I
assume was due to backache but as she couldn't tell me....) It's just a
thought.

Thanks - well went back to the vet. Red blood cell count is down
and he has a high level of a something starting with a B connected
with the reduction of blood cells. We are giving him a strong anti-
biotic and steriod overnight with hydration and feeding. We hope to
see a small improvement tomorrow in his demeanor, BUT, wont know til
Tuesday of blood cells are improving. If not, then we are thinking
it's FIP. :(
