Afternoon all!

About 4 years back my beagle had a scare with pancreaitis.. we had to
take her in and leave her at the vet for a week to get her system back
on track. She was overweight, and back then we were giving her human
food..i know not good! That was the leading cause of her near death
experience.

Since then we have put her on Canine W/D from Hills - and managed her
weight.

This morning I took her in for her vaccinations , and her CBC was good
(red and white in check), but the vet noticed slightly elevated Liver
Enzymes. He said he wasn't very concerned, but would put her on a
herbal remendy to see if that will lower the enzymes. Also note -she
has gained 3lbs in a year pretty much - she's at 25lbs.

Just wondering if anyone elses older dog has had this issue with Liver
Enzymes?

Thanks for your time!

My old guy's liver values were slightly elevated at his last blood work.
He's on Milk Thistle (20mg/kg) for a few weeks, and we'll see if that helps.
(Nothing was strongly 'out of whack', but a couple of numbers just a little
out from normal).

Hi Dale - I was wondering if the Milk Thistle (20mg/kg) did the job on
your little one? I have to take my 15yo back to the Vet in a week or
so and would like options in the event the natural route didn't work.

Is there a medical approach that can regulate Enzymes?

We rechecked his liver values, and they were improved.

There are a number of treatments which can help with the liver.
Whether they are appropriate for your guy or not, I don't know (Denosyl
comes to mind, as does Zentonil)

Dale (and all) , I just wanted to update you all..

Turned out the liver enzymes went down 10-15% while using the
vitamines. So the vet said to stop using them - and go back in 6 - 8
weeks for a CBC to see if they are the same or lower. If they raise -
he will revisit the treatment.

Is there anything I can do at home to keep the Liver Enzymes at bay?
Regular walking (this happens anyways), diet etc..

What causes elevated Liver Enzymes? Age? Diet?

Thank you all.
