My 11 year old spaniel had cruciate ligament knee surgery 8 weeks ago.  He
recently started licking the site/When I checked the site I found two loops
of clear fishline coming out of his skin. Did the vet use non-absorbable
sutures? What needs to be done? I can see/feel another 1 1/2" of sutures
right under the skin. What's the difference in appearance of types of sutures?

I think we need some more details here to know for sure what's going on. My
own course of action would be to talk to the clinic that did the surgery.
They know all their regular protocols for this type of surgery, whereas no
one on this group does.

That being said, what did the incision look like immediately following
surgery? I'm assuming there were some stitches to be removed (or did the
bury them)? Did these get removed? Could this be the remains of some skin
sutures that didn't get removed when they should have?

What does the wound look like now? At 8 weeks, it should be pretty well
healed up. Any puffy-ness or redness?
