My 8 y/o Black Lab has been chewing  his left hind leg and back. When I
looked closer he's try to get an area about one inch from his anus, but it
is on the skin.  The area is raised white dried clusters about an inch
diameter with some flaking.  The dead skin (flaking) is rust in color.
There are no s/s of infection and the area is not sensitive to touch. The
fur is intact.
I gently irrigated it with half  H2O2/H20 and applied triple antibiotic.  He
has a vet appoint later in the week.

Thanks,  Joyce

I would check the anal sacs first, and then move on.

It's not near the anus, the sphincter and the surrounding area looks
perfectly normal. Definitely on the skin.

Doesn't matter. Dogs with anal sacs inflammation usually chew the particular
part of  the body like legs, back and even shake their head. They don't have
to lick or chew their perianal area at all.

..........Don't know.  Your description sounds like a fungue.  Sometimes
things get rust colored because of their frequent chewing or because of
bacterial infection due to chewing/moistness.

I have gently irrig. it with peroxide and water, applied triple antibiotic
oint.  It loosened it, and I was able to get it off with tweezers, a little
at a time. It was a HUGE scab I suppose, probably from a pesticide or
insecticide as we live in FL. and there is plenty of that.  It looks good
today, a small amt. of pink tissue, so I think he's cured!!  Thanks.

.....Yes, I suppose it could be contact dermatitis.  I wouldn't use hydrogen
peroxide more than once because it retards healing.  If it's nice and pink
I'd think about Vit E now or just leave it alone.  He's not still chewing on
it is he?

We did peroxide and water, equal parts, gentle irrig. not a problem.  The
large scab or whatever finally came off.  Nice healthy pink tissue. Keeping
it moist with Vit. E.  You are right, it is great.  Thanks.
