This has happened 3 times now: puppy wakes up in the morning, has a couple
sips of water, then starts vomitting. Luckily for us, there's nothing in her
stomach so it's mainly just a little acidy mucous. She will only vomit if
she has something in her stomach so fasting her for 24 hours has cleared it
up. The first time, we talked to the vet who said it was probably just
something she ate that disagreed with her. Problem is she only eats her food
(and treats). When she's outside she's 100% supervised and doesn't get into
anything. At times, there have been slight signs of colitis.
Last time it happened it was the morning after our puppy kindergarten class.
Eureka--it must be the treats. She hasn't had treats for a week. Well today
the same thing happened this morning. Witheld water and no food all day and
just now she had a little return of the vomitting after not vomitting at all
all day.
Any ideas? The longer this goes on, the less likely the "something upset her
stomach" seems. I can't imagine what she could be getting into inside or
outside that would cause this reaction.
It seems to happen on about a weekly basis. After a 24 hour fast, she's ok
for the next 7 days. Could this be an obstruction somewhere? What are the
symptoms of a bowel obstruction?

Try feeding her smaller meals more often. I have a lab who has done this
since a pup even at 11 he still gets this way if he goes too long without
any food. If he doesn't eat 5 small meals a day he gets an upset stomach
and throws up.
If this were an obstruction you would see vomiting more often.
