My visitherm heater sucks!31 Jan 2004 16:58 GMT6
This heater came with my setup, and as far as I can tell it doesn't hold
it's temperature well at all. This morning my tank was down to 77, and
this evening the heater is coming on with the temp at 81. I have had the
lights on for about 8 hours today(so I guess that might have ...

I have noticed under my gravel some tiny mites - 1000s of them I guess,
anyone know how to get rid of them? Are these parasites? Can I get a
parasite killer for fish tanks? I am thinking of taking all my water out
to a certain level (putting that water back in after my tank is ...

Anyone know if these are compatible, I have a fire eel and 2 Polypterus
Birchir's and I'm wondering if I could house them together in a 55g, I need
to get rid of the oscars in my eel tank (55) as they are outgrowing it, and
I would like to get the birchirs out of my 90g african, as ...
I need help with my Nitrite readings.31 Jan 2004 03:02 GMT1
Hello all again :-)
I am having problems keeping the Nitrite levels low at the moment.  I think
it is due to adding too many fish at once on the 24th Jan '04.
Here is a link to the tank readings (in Excel format):

Our tank at work (30x15x12) is approx 2wks old, houses 2 goldfish and 2
black moors, heated at 20c and has a fluval 2+ filter.
The water never really became crystal clear from the outset so i decided to
change the filter media (i thought maye it was overloaded after filtering
How to improve colours in a tank?30 Jan 2004 21:22 GMT1
I have a nice tank now, some red guppies, blue guppies, 15 or so cardinals,
4 blue discus, 4 red pidgeon discus, 4 silver dollars, 8 black / marbled
angels, assorted smaller coloured fishes, plecos.
Trouble is, the tank looks a bit drab nd I am sure it ought to possible to
Compatible fish?30 Jan 2004 20:57 GMT16
Huge thanks to you all, I've learnt such a lot from this (and similar)
newsgroups.  I'm going to start my first tropical tank in the next couple of
days on a fishless cycle.  I haven't kept fish for 14 years, and then is was
a very short lived, coldwater tank, I killed 3 through new ...
ph30 Jan 2004 19:45 GMT2
We have had a cycled community tank running for a couple months now.  we had
4 blue tetra's that were healthy yesterday(at least seemed to be)  but today
there were 3 deaths.  Tested the water and there is 0 amm, 0 nitrite, and
6.6 ph.  Now I am pretty sure the PH has been neutral ...
Eheim 2217 under a walmart stand (will it fit?)30 Jan 2004 18:09 GMT3
I have a 55 gallon walmart setup, and would like to get an eheim 2217.
It looks like it would fit(per eheim's website dimensions) but I'm not
sure. I would have tried out a biowheel filter (per Frank's
recomendation), but I don't have enough space behind the tank:(. Besides
Attn Frankrkay:  TDS Question30 Jan 2004 17:54 GMT1
Following on from the discussion of TDS (in the 'Eheim Clones' thread), what
do you consider the ideal range to be for freshwater aquariums?
I've just measured mine and get TDS 230 (or EC 460) with a freshly
calibrated Hanna 98129.   (I have a few problems with my tank and suspect ...
HELP FISH ALL DIE!!30 Jan 2004 16:15 GMT13
I have a very small freshwater aquarium. Now all over sudden all my fish
die. Al my tetras died in 2 days, now the left-over fish are acting quite
strange too. Just hanging somewhere.. Looks like they are stoned.. There is
enough oxygen in the water and the temperature is just fine.
pick 2 types of fish30 Jan 2004 00:02 GMT25
Imagine your local radio station runs a contest to pick someone to stock
their new lobby aquarium, and a chain fish store has agreed to supply the
fish, gravel & rocks, and as many fish as you want (within reason), but
only 2 species.  Imagine you won.  It's a 5' 100g freshwater ...
