Does all biofiltration have to be wet/dry as in the bio-wheel? Would it be feasable for me to get a couple of bio-balls and drop them into my Aqua-Tech 5-15 filter, would that work or do the bio-balls need to be wet/dry?

Is there a problem with the plastic holder that holds the four sponge filters? Mine fits very tight and seems to be falling apart, well you can see the stress marks all over it.
