Need excessive algae bloom help31 Jan 2007 21:31 GMT6
Hi all - I know this topic is talked about frequently, but I'm
beginning to think there may be as many individual solutions as
problems. And I'm pretty much a newbie...so bear with me!  Here are my
particulars:
White Stuff, not on Fish31 Jan 2007 01:32 GMT18
I've got some white, cottony "threads" (~1/4" long) showing up on the glass
and a little on a rock, but I see nothing on the fish.  Any ideas on what it
could be (fungus?) and treatment?
Thanks,
Update on moderated rec.ponds.29 Jan 2007 21:12 GMT4
For those who fled rec.ponds due to the troll invasion.  There will soon be
a safe place on Usenet to post pond and pond fish related messages. This was
found on another NG:

I have used this filter for approx 2 yrs & it worked OK until I recently
cleaned it & since then the motor is noisy whereas before it was silent.
Unfortunately for such a good product the instruction manual is almost
useless & doesn't have any trouble shooting section.
Reusing an ex-goldfish tank for tropical fish23 Jan 2007 14:55 GMT1
I just transferred my three goldfish into a large tank. I want to use the
smaller tank to keep warm water tropical fish. Do I need to thoroughly clean
the tank which has underwater gravel filter tray and an external water
filter before I introduce any tropical fish?

Two weeks ago I bought a lovely red Siamese fighter. At the shop he was
housed in a small jar/tank. He has now settled down in his new 55 gallon
tank with 2 angels 5 cardinals, 5 pentazonal barbs, 4 zebra's and 2 clown
fish.

best fish for our aquarium15 Jan 2007 18:28 GMT3
We have a 29 gallon aquarium, currently doesn't have many fish.  We have 4
neon tetras, 1 rummy-nosed tetra, 1 platy, 1 silver molly, and a
plecostamus.  What do you recommend that we could add to this group?
TIA

Sinking air stones.14 Jan 2007 10:43 GMT6
Got a couple of air stones for my tank and I need to sink them to the bottom.
Ideally I want to sink the hoses along the edge of the tank and then bury the
air stones.  My tank is mega deep (800mm) and I am finding it hard to get the
air stones placed and the tubes down so I can ...
Juwel internal filters...are they ok?13 Jan 2007 07:08 GMT3
I have read a number of threads over the last few days all having a go
at any Juwel internal filter. I except that a large external is a good
thing but I am looking at the least amount of clutter I can as "the
other half" is more than keen to stop me having a tank at all if it
Guppies overbreeding11 Jan 2007 23:39 GMT3
Short of getting some angels is there any way to stop guppies from
breeding?  My tank is beginning to look like fish soup!

external flter question11 Jan 2007 12:27 GMT1
I've just added (yesterday) an external to my 190L Jewel tanks. the tank
usually has, as well as the standard jewel corner filter, a fluval 4+
filter. At the moment they are all running, inc the external one.
Can I take out the fluval? Is there enough biological filter material in ...
fish tank lights07 Jan 2007 00:31 GMT2
I replaced my fish tank lights with new ones. now one of my fish is
hiding from the lights. The new lights are 50/50 6500k lights. Can these
lights hurt my fish?
My current reef videos06 Jan 2007 17:02 GMT14
I thought I would share a few videos of my current reef set up. the first
video shows how it looked a couple of months after set up in December 2005.
The second shows how it has progressed in 9 months and the last is the
difference a year makes (December 2006)
