My girlfriend gave me a couple of lovebirds as a birthday present a
week ago, a present I really appreciated since I love animals and have
had some other birds before, but never any kind of parrots.
I have really read a lot this days and I know now her choice was not
Popcorn?28 Dec 2005 03:59 GMT7
Well, week 3 and my red-bellied "Java" is now really enjoying his bath
and lets me scratch his head and rides on the shoulder when I drive the
riding lawnmower. (Not mowing, just driving) He is very calm and
talking away. No morning screeches or evening screeches. I think I am
Night Blooming Cirus... Ok or not?25 Dec 2005 01:48 GMT2
I have many bird safe plants in my home, but one in particular I have
not been able to get an answer on.  I was hoping someone here might
know.  I have a huge "Night Blooming Cirus" (Not sure of spelling),
that has been in my family for many years.  It is a vine type plant

The Night Before Christmas . . . .Budgie Version
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the flight, not a
feather was stirring, not even a mite.
The hens were all nestled on top of their eggs, While visions of
Hey, Google people23 Dec 2005 18:30 GMT14
For those on Google, learn how to post properly, i.e. include some of the
text you are replying to.  If you don't, it looks like you're talking to
yourself.  Google is NOT a proper newsreader. Those who do not use Google
here in Usenet land (99.99999%) usually set up their ...
Sick Budgie?23 Dec 2005 00:17 GMT8
Apologies if this is not the correct forum. I acquired a 16 week old
harlequin budgie about  weeks back, and she seems to have an occasional
habit of coughing, going on for minute, linked with beak opening, maybe a
bit of headshaking, and swallowing. Still, she was always bright ...

too soap or not too soap in the shower?19 Dec 2005 04:31 GMT7
I keep reading and hearing about showers for parrots. As in "taking a
shower with your bird. But no one has mentioned rather or not you use
soap in the shower. I don't mean on the bird. I mean yourself.  Is it
just a water shower? or can you shampoo your hair?  I don't use

Tiel pellet question17 Dec 2005 15:18 GMT8
I saw some cockatiel questions being answered here and I
have one about diet.  I was advised by the owners of the pet
store I bought my bird in to give it the seed they were
feeding it, but almost everything I've read online so far
Five dead parakeets -- why?17 Dec 2005 02:53 GMT14
About two months ago my son bought two parakeets from PetSmart, one
yellow and one blue.  The blue one suddenly died after about a week, he
replaced it with another, which died after three days, and another
which lasted 3 hours, then another which lasted about a week and a
Macaw freaks out when I drink valarian root tea...16 Dec 2005 13:03 GMT24
I've been looking after my grandma's hyacinth macaw, Jimmy for a few
days and I have noticed some rather odd behaviour from him. I drink
valerian root tea every night to help me sleep (I'm an insomniac) but
whenever Jimmy sees me with a cup of the stuff, he goes absolutely

Does anyone have any advice on how to naturally stop a kakiriki laying eggs
? For the last few months she's laying nearly one every other day and this

Also any advice on how to make her look a little less scrawny. Her feathers

It disappeared Saturday and at first we thought it had
gotten lost in the attic, which was something that
