I have 3 birds, 2 budgies and a 4 y.o. Pacific Parrotlet, all males. Due to a terminal health condition and despite excellent veterinary care I will lose one of the budgies within the next few days. I have a follow-up appointment with the vet on Monday and will probably have to

| lame canary | 26 Jan 2006 21:11 GMT | 2 |
Got a little overzealous when clipping my canary's toenails today, and one started bleeding. I immediately applied pressure with my fingers, and it stopped after a minute. He did lose a few drops of blood, which looked pretty scary.

I first put put out a seed block in my tiny side yard (I'm on a corner block) 5 years ago and the first birds to visit were a pair of Eastern Rosellas. Since then I have had to design special feeders so they and only they can get in (no doves, pigeons or magpies allowed) and to make

Has anyone ever touched up one of their bird cages with paint? What kind of paint do you use that's safe for the bird? I have an Avian Adventures cage with the baked on finish that has a few rust spots due to my Blue Mountain Lorie and the very "wet" nature of her

| Fat content of various seeds | 18 Jan 2006 21:05 GMT | 2 |
I have a cockatiel with liver problems (yes, he's under the care of an avian specialist vet), and want to try to keep his diet as low fat as possible. Apparently millet is relatively low in fat and high in protein and, of course, safflower seed and oilseed/sunflower seed is high ...

| this looks bad | 16 Jan 2006 04:07 GMT | 25 |
I went in to my cockatiel this evening and his right eye looked weird. I leaned in closer and... for lack of a better way to put it, it looks like the insides of his eye, the conjunctiva (?) have swollen up and are now partially

| Help with a new home for my macaw... | 15 Jan 2006 20:05 GMT | 5 |
I'm pretty sure nobody will recognize me but I used to be a really active member about two years ago with my Blue and Gold Macaw Joey...As much as I hate and hoped I would never have to be one of "those" people that have to find their bird a new home I seem to be stuck on that

| cordon bleus and stawberries | 15 Jan 2006 16:37 GMT | 1 |
does anyone know how old cordon bleu finches or strawberry finches would have to be before they start having babies? i bought a few pairs of both recently (a few months ago), and they have made nests and laid eggs, but they generally don't seem too interested in sitting on them. ...

| Can Budgies and Cockatiels... | 13 Jan 2006 23:14 GMT | 14 |
.... co-exist in the same cage? One Budgie, one Cockatiel. Big cage. I'm thinking of getting a Budgie as a companion bird for my Cockatiel.

| Cockatiel in need of therapy (longish) | 13 Jan 2006 21:39 GMT | 7 |
I have a 12-year cockatiel who has been a screamer all his life. Yes, I know about not reinforcing the screaming. He does not get yelled at or petted when screaming. I generally just cover him unceremoniously for a few minutes. I used to whistle back to him or talk nicely in

| (Sea)gulls - update | 10 Jan 2006 16:31 GMT | 8 |
Dylan is doing really well by the way - he's growing big and strong and his plumage looks great! He now has feathers growing over the stump where his wing used to be. He seems to have calmed down a lot too. It's winter here, so I think he's being nice to me because I'm
