My adult male mozambique is showing signs of sickness, but I have no idea what's wrong. His fins are clamped and a little ragged. He's been hanging about the surface lately and not eating. His balance is affected as he doesn't seem

| Did I give them too many hiding places ? (fish not seen very often) | 29 Feb 2004 11:07 GMT | 9 |
We have recently (ie last week) populated our new cichlid tank. It is a 220 litre tank and has a custom built background, complete with loads of "caves". See http://fish.alansilver.co.uk/Mark3/ for more details of the tank, background, caves, etc.

| rift lake buffer | 27 Feb 2004 05:07 GMT | 32 |
Ok, two questions for ya'll today: I found a recpie for rift lake buffer (the usual salt, epsom salt and baking soda), and calculated out how much I'd need per 5 gallons and worked it out into a number of doses for my 80gal tank.

| Solitary Oscar - OK? | 26 Feb 2004 22:46 GMT | 4 |
Is it ok to keep an Oscar: a) on it's own, i.e. the only fish in the tank? b) with other fish, but no other Oscars? I read that they are a pairing fish, but how important is this to their

| Pairing up Oscars | 26 Feb 2004 17:24 GMT | 2 |
I have 5 juvenile oscars (in a 300 litre tank) that I bought at the same time, all of a similar size, the idea being that a pair might form. They have grown at different rates and now the two largest (4"?) which are almost identical are dominating the tank hanging in mid-water at ...

| Fairy Cichlid Neolamp in Acid Tank? | 25 Feb 2004 22:15 GMT | 3 |
Has anyone ever kept a Neolamprologus <sp?> in a CO2 injected high light 29C tank? The pH is around 6.6 and gH is between 6-10 (coral chips in the filter). I just have to separate them from a smaller tank. Two of the Neolamp group

| I think I just killed all my fish | 25 Feb 2004 22:10 GMT | 16 |
I cannot believe I did this but I think I managed to kill an entire tank of cichlids tonight. I am really bombed out about it. I have a 45 gallon tank with some juveniles thriving for the past 3 months. Typically I changed the water once a month when I had some community fish in

| Cichlid show question | 23 Feb 2004 20:51 GMT | 2 |
I bought a bunch of cichlids at the Chicago show yesterday. I have a 120 gallon, fully cycled tank. I bought about 10 fish (to a tank that had about 6 already). Worrying about the ammonia spike, I added some Amquel. Is this what most of you do when you buy fish at shows? I saw a lot ...

| Oscars & Plecos | 23 Feb 2004 02:48 GMT | 1 |
I'm curious to know what size a pleco should be, relative to the size of the oscar, before being added to the tank or if it matters. I would like to put a pleco in with my 6" Oscar, but I don't know if the pleco should be of a considerable size before being introduced. I ...
