Skin Irritation30 Apr 2004 18:29 GMT29
Actually, my fish are not cichlids, they are local wild fish.
I've got two tanks that are fully cycled with ammonia and nitrites safely
under control. Nitrates are also within acceptable range. Besides the water
being a little hard and some variations on alkalinity, everything is ...

oscar food 30 Apr 2004 11:03 GMT25
i've tried 3-4 different brands of cichlid food, currently hikari
cichlid staple.  my oscares seem less than impressed, only a  couple
bites eaten it seems.  what can i use/try?  they all loved the flakes.
but that seems a poor choice.

Water problems?  My Firemouth Cichlids died =(27 Apr 2004 13:09 GMT3
In the past 3 months, I have had 2 firemouth cichlids die.  One was
several 2 years old and one was 1 year old.  I am wondering if there
might be something wrong with my water.  I have tested the water this
morning, after finding my firemouth dead, to find the following:
My "Lamp." similis photo gallery23 Apr 2004 01:26 GMT13
I've put up a page with my current photo gallery of my similis tanks and
their fry. I got some good photos with my new digital camera in macro mode
which motivated me to post the pictures. Later on, I'll make a more
detailed breeding tank style page.

safe ammonia level22 Apr 2004 11:47 GMT6
rosebud:
I try to keep a resonable tank for our chiclids.  The ammonia level
seems to be stayin at a level of between 0-1ppm.  My assumption is
that this a good level.  But I wonder sometimes if it should be
Jack Dempsey color changes???????21 Apr 2004 22:33 GMT11
I bought a Jack Dempsey cichlid from PetsMart last week. At the store,
he was yellow with a black lateral line. When the lady netted him, his
yellow changed to dark gray, and he got black bands on him. Looks just
like a convict. I have had him for a week, and he still hasn't changed

A story and then some questions...
So I have a 55 gallon tank, 3 red zebras, 3 blue socolofi(sp) and 2

Red Empress - females won't breed.18 Apr 2004 23:39 GMT2
I've  got a trio of red empress. 1 male and 2 females as far as I can see.
The male is very nicely coloured, a brilliant metallic blue head with a deep
red body. He's about 4-5 inches long, and he's dug himself a large breeding
pit in my 120g tank. he defends it with gusto. But he's ...

I have one gorgeous big gold, and one green severum that matured
together and finally paired off to mate. The gold lays eggs.... they both
tend them. 3-4 tries and no spawn. I separate them for awhile. Lo and behold
the green one lays eggs while alone. They are both obviously ...
