| Electric blue - Sciaenochromis ahli vs Sciaenochromis fryeri | 30 Dec 2006 10:56 GMT | 10 |
I have been selling a few of my "Electric Blues" to a LFS for very little money. I tried another today and he looked at my fish and said they weren't electric blues. He noticed there were "dots" on the side of some and said they must be a hybrid with a peacock. He then showed

| Sexing Electric Blues | 30 Dec 2006 07:10 GMT | 9 |
The guy from the LFS told me that the first sign that an Electric Blue will be a male is that there will be four yellow dots appearing on the Anal fin. Since my female has four dots on her anal fin, I thought he'd just made a slip of the tongue and he meant that it would be ...

| Nitrates | 20 Dec 2006 08:34 GMT | 5 |
Hey there, I am having trouble with nitrates. They are running around 40ppm. At what levels do things get toxic for freshwater fish? Specifically the big cichlids like Oscars and Red Devils.

| Fw: Does aggressiveness and competition push reproduction? | 20 Dec 2006 05:16 GMT | 3 |
I think I hit the 'reply' instead of 'reply to all' button. It's genetically impossible for the yellow labs to successfully breed with jack dempseys. Maybe you are observing them displaying (which is a visual form of aggression).

| New fish! | 19 Dec 2006 14:50 GMT | 2 |
Anybody guess what these guys are? I just picked them up from my favorite fish store here near Seattle. I'd been waiting for some similar but these showed up instead. I grabbed 6 nice specimens right out of the shipping bag.

| tanked.netfirms.com has moved | 18 Dec 2006 20:17 GMT | 1 |
My old reference site of 5yrs just moved to its own domain. The new site is: at-home-and-tanked.com (or tanked.info if you prefer). To refresh your memory, the home page shows my 250g tank in the garage with my Harley in foreground... just cause it was too much trouble to move it.

| Secrets the Pet Stores Don't Want You to Know | 18 Dec 2006 06:11 GMT | 2 |
Many pet stores unfortunately just see the money involved and couldn't care less about the animals they sell. That's why they cram bettas into those tiny cups. More bettas in more tiny cups means more money for them.

Anyone frequent here that is new to collecting cichlids? Or anyone not new that just wants to share with us, what they have, etc. Just curious for conversation, try and pick this NG up to where it once was. What size tank have you purchased? What types of cichlids are you ...

I know it's been awhile, but I've been around, just not posting as I used to... I've got a 29 that's WAY overcrowded, but controlled.... and with a strange mix of sorts...

| new baby red oscars | 07 Dec 2006 10:41 GMT | 4 |
It's probably nothing, but I just got 2 baby (1 3/4 in.) red oscars. I did a water check and everything seems okay, but they both seem kind of lethargic. One more than the other. I'm hoping it's just because of a new home, but.. I'm a first-time oscar mom, so I'm not real familiar ...
