established tank (6yrs) temp problem30 Sep 2003 10:54 GMT1
I had a problem with an established 55 gallon tank that has 1 large
angel and 1 large pleco and a bunch of plants for 6 years. The heater
went on the fritz while I was away and when I came home was in the
high 90's (F).
Strange Platty phenomenon>?30 Sep 2003 10:10 GMT2
I have a female platty in a community tank. She has given birth twice
already in the last 3 months. As expected she started to swell up again.
However, on Sunday morning I noticed that she was looking like a balloon
- like she was going to burst. So much so that her scales are ...

Well after keeping a nice snail food source (ramshorn) for my clown loaches
for two months I have finally run into a complication.  Im looking in my
snail tank and there are hundreds of 'worms' floating around and sticking to
the glass.  These guys are approx 1/2 inch long, any ...

Opinions needed: AlgaeFix29 Sep 2003 11:48 GMT3
I am fighting with outbreak of hair algae Chantransja sp

Has anybody here used it before? What are your experiences?
This is the list of its active ingredients:
EHEIM - EHFISUBSTRAT  replace ??? why ???28 Sep 2003 16:33 GMT2
I'm running an EHEIM 2224 in a 55 gal freshwater community tank and
have been very happy with my filter (shameless EHEIM plug).
In my 2224 I target to replace the fine white filter pads about every
6 months and the coarser blue filter pads about once a year.  I use
Substrate help27 Sep 2003 14:58 GMT4
Hi, I'm kinda new to the hobby, and was wondering if it is acceptable to use
sand (instead of gravel) as freshwater substrate?  If so, at what ratio to
gallons of water? It's a brand new tank, so there are no inhabitants yet.
Also what type of filtration would be best...it's a big ...
Can fish get sunburn?27 Sep 2003 09:42 GMT4
I have the during the last few months lost quite a few fish in my community
tank. It starts with a greyish cover on the forehead, then they thinner,
stop eating, and eventually die.
I've been pondering about what could be wrong.... the water looks perfect,
Snails26 Sep 2003 22:22 GMT1
My tank is infested with snails. I started with 4-5 now I have 4-500. I know
there is a F/W fish that eats them, but will it eat my 4 apple snails as
well? They are about the size of a ping-pong ball. Plus what is the name of
the fish? I have a 55g f/w tank.

BGA and bioload correllation?24 Sep 2003 07:58 GMT1
Recently, one of my tanks experienced an unfortunate case of
dropsy.  It killed off most of the fish I had in the 20G tank.  Two bolivian
rams and three ottos were all that was left in a tank that was used to
having half a dozen swordtails and some rainbows in there too.
Pl*co24 Sep 2003 04:57 GMT3
Call me strange, but I was just wondering why everyone uses pl*co
instead of pleco...
