Fishless cycle + ammonia question24 Jan 2004 08:58 GMT4
I haven't posted to the group in a while -- I hope no one minds a quick
question.
Anyway...  I recently set up a 75 gallon.  I've had water in it for about
a week with the filter running and air stones going.  I took some gravel

I am considering getting one or more Otocinclus affinis for my 10 gallon
tank.
Will enough algae grow in my tank to feed them, or will I need to
supplement with other food?  (I do grow green algae on the glass and
Keeping Tetras and Other Soft Water Species: Please Help 23 Jan 2004 14:03 GMT11
I'm no guru in this hobby albeit my understanding of the basics. My interest
in the FW tank was stimulated mostly by the desire to keep small schooling
colorful species like the neon or cardinal tetras.  Most of the species I'm
interested in seem to be soft water species.
Opinions on Best Canister Filer Wanted23 Jan 2004 13:52 GMT2
I'm setting up a freshwater Oceanic 46 gallon bowfront and plan to use a
canister filter. I've used hang-on power filters in the past.
I'd appreciate information on the best canister filter system. I've got my
eye on a Rena XP 2 that is highly recommended by my local fish store.
Cory Question23 Jan 2004 13:35 GMT8
I have 2 Corydoras punctatus (Spotted Cory) in a tank with some Platys.
I understand that Corys are nocturnal, but sometimes I worry about
them.  They rarely move, except at feeding time.  The ones I see at the
LFS are fairly active.  Do they need a school/shoal of more than two to
Pea Puffers?23 Jan 2004 07:50 GMT4
So LFS got some 'pea puffers' in a few days ago. The only thing I got from
google was stuff I already knew.. Dwarf puffer, only gets to be about 1-1.5
inches. LFS says are good for community tanks, but saw conflicting info on a
webpage... Help! Anyone have any info?
beginner info on snails?22 Jan 2004 16:00 GMT3
I'm wondering about snails such as apple snails or mystery snails... I have
no experience in keeping them.  Is there any good info. out there on their
requirements?  What's their affect on the bioload (or does the 1-inch per 1
gallon rule apply), what fish do and don't snails get ...
Diamond tetra jaw problem?22 Jan 2004 15:58 GMT4
I purchased 5 diamond tetras (Moenkhausia pittieri) recently. Upon
arrival at home, I noticed that the forward portions of their lips
were whitish, as if they had been running into the side of the tank
or something. About few days later I noticed that one had a ...
Digital ph testers22 Jan 2004 13:24 GMT6
I am toying with the idea of buying a portable, battery powered ph tester.
Has anyone had any experience with these?
How often do they need to be calibrated?  How easy is this?
How reliable are they?

Angelfish with very severe equilibrium problem22 Jan 2004 12:19 GMT5
Hi the other day I bought some quarter size angelfish and 1 of them has
a very severe equilibrium problem.  I mean he can lie on the ground and
every time he tries to swim he ends up crashing into things and turning
upside down.  He cannot really move.  I have him a ten gal ...
moving fish22 Jan 2004 12:13 GMT4
I recently set up a 75 gal tank with 16 tetras, 8 gouramis, 3 corys,
and 3 ADFs. We are now in the process of selling our home and we will
be moving. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to move so many
fish and such a big tank. The biggest worry I have is we will be
