Need Fish Advice07 Feb 2004 05:55 GMT3
My new tank is coming along fine.  I have a 55 gallon tank with an XP3
filter, Hagen Powerhead, EBO-Jager Heater, Eheim auto feeder, some cool
decorations - driftwood, coral, etc.  I'm getting ready to cycle my tank.  I
have a goldfish and a Parrot fish that I will recruit for this ...
What could have possibly killed my biofilter?06 Feb 2004 15:31 GMT10
20g long heavily planted tank with Eclipse hood, well established for
about 9 months. Inhabitants include a dozen or so algae eating shrimp,
one big filter feeding shrimp, pigmy cories, ottos, and a golden
ancistrus. I did a 40% water change on Sunday morning. I wanted to try
Clown Loaches attacked Gupp(ies)06 Feb 2004 15:06 GMT14
yesterday, woke up to a clown loach with one of my breeder guppy females in
his mouth, she was obviously dead so I chalked it up to opportunistic
feeding.... took it away from him and went to flush the body.. came back and
saw 1 of the 2 CLs darting down from the surface and I ...
Ruby Reds, What are they?06 Feb 2004 07:47 GMT4
Are these tropical fish or a type of goldfish?  I bought some from a local
fish store over 6 months ago from the feeder tank.  Very cheap. I got them
because a bigger tank was having problems and I wanted to see if the tank
was healthy after trying several treatments. They are now ...
Ageing Water To Remove Chlorine/Chloramine?05 Feb 2004 18:20 GMT2
Does anyone have experience with ageing water in the blue barrels  (30
or 55 gallon)?
I understand that chlorine will dissipate but chloramine will not.
Moreover, I have read that products which break chloramine down
Question re Adjusting pH05 Feb 2004 12:30 GMT7
My tap water at home is in the 7.6-7.8 range.  I have Platys and Corys in my
tank.  Referencing www.fishbase.com, these two fish have pH ranges of
7.0-8.0 and 6.0-8.0, respectively.  When I bought the fish and the aquarium,
my LFS recommended that I use chemicals to adjust my water ...
weird bug in my tank05 Feb 2004 04:52 GMT19
Can anyone help me identify what this thing in my tank is?
pictures: http://webpages.charter.net/eric_v/
I recently noticed this bug in my tank.  It appears to be stuck inside a
pile of rocks in the corner of my tank. This bug was not there when I set up
Which heaters are solid state and heater recommendations05 Feb 2004 01:49 GMT2
I've been doing a bit of research on which heater to get for my new 55G
tank.  It seems like Ebo-Jager heaters are very highly recommended, however,
I believe they still use a bi-metal strip to control the temp.  So I started
looking a little at solid state heaters, like Tronic.  ...
Gunk Goop05 Feb 2004 00:08 GMT2
Since I've started UV sterilizing, The inlet tube to the fluval is
constantly plugging up solid with a brown mucousy type of goop. Doesn't look
like algae. The emperor has the same problem, inlet gets all plugged up, as
well as the impellor. The filter media itself is fine, ...
Fin damage?04 Feb 2004 23:28 GMT2
On average, how long does it normally take for a slightly damaged fin to
heal w/out any outside assistance? One of my fish had a small tear (fin is
about an inch long, tear was maybe 1/4 of an inch) that I noticed about 2-3
days ago and now it's healed.. Is that normal or do I have ...
black brush algae04 Feb 2004 20:59 GMT4
I've looked for solutions for it, and really haven't found anything...
http://www.floridadriftwood.com/algae_identification.html - seems to be
down, but when it was up, it described with a picture I think, exactly what
I have, but offered no solution to fix it besides the obvious, ...
Feeding live food04 Feb 2004 20:16 GMT3
My local shop sells packets of live food (brine shrimp, water fleas etc.).
They are sealed plastic packets, half full of water and swarming with
goodies.  Being a complete beginner I'm not sure of the best way to get
these to my fish.

Hello to everyone,
Well I have been at this new hobby for just a little over 2 months now.

Treating Corys for Ich04 Feb 2004 19:41 GMT7
I have 2 Corys and 6 Platys.  One Cory has a white spot on its flank, a
white spot at the pectoral fin "underarm", and a white spot on a gill.  I
assume this is Ich.  Is it?  (None of the other fish are exhibiting any
symptoms.)
