"Koi Medic Salt Meter" fails miserably02 Feb 2004 18:39 GMT5
An electronic salt meter that measures freshwater salt content in a
precise percentage with a simple dip? Sounds too good to be true. I
bought one of these

glo fish speckled vs striped 02 Feb 2004 13:48 GMT4
I just bought two glo-fish.  I thought these were gene spliced zebra danios.
One looks like a red zebra, however the other is speckled like a trout not
striped.  Is this the difference between male and female, or is there more
than one kind of glo fish?

zipper loaches breeding?01 Feb 2004 14:53 GMT7
I was breaking down a tank the other day, and I found two fry of what
look to be zipper loaches. The only other species in the tank are yoyo
loaches and oto cats, and these 1cm babies definitely resemble the
zippers more than the others.

Fish per gallons?01 Feb 2004 10:58 GMT17
Okay, so when I first got into the hobby as a kid the standard was 1 fish
per gallon. When I got back into 2-3 years ago I find now it goes by the
actual size of the fish. If I have it figured out correctly by this
standard, in a 10 gallon tank I could have: 10 1 inch fish, 5 2 inch ...

Can anyone suggest a way to stop my guppies taking over the world! Is
there a fish that will eat the emerging young but leave the bigger ones
alone?
Ammolock and the biofilter01 Feb 2004 04:26 GMT3
Hi I have a slight problem with ammonia in my tank.  I can't seem to get rid
of the last traces of it.  Combined with my high pH (8.2) I am worried that
it is causing alot of problems for my fish even at such low levels.  I am
wondering about putting ammolock in the media baskets of ...
Feeding Spotted Pictus Cat, or any bottom dweller?01 Feb 2004 02:43 GMT1
I just got a Spotted Pictus Cat to go in my Oscar tank.
My question is how it ever eats?  It is constantly swimming around, up and
down the tank, and never touches the gravel.  Yet when I feed the oscar, it
doesn't get any of that food either.
pH and hardness levels?01 Feb 2004 01:07 GMT1
First, thanks to everyone who has taken time to help me out.  My tank is now
five weeks old and doing well.  All fish appear healthy and none have died.
I tested all my levels again this morning and everything is pretty good
except for the water hardness.  I use the test strips from ...
