Did my tank cycle or is the biofiliter dead?26 Feb 2004 01:59 GMT8
History:
After 6 weeks of trying to get my tank to finish cycling I was at no
ammonia, but off the charts in nitrates and nitrites for nearly 3
weeks.  Algea growth was starting to get sizable so I added a pleco
Update on persistent cloudy tank26 Feb 2004 00:41 GMT5
Hmm - I just took out a sample of the water in a glass - and it is perfectly
clear !
Yet the tank appears cloudy - I think Frank is right - the excess aeration -
makes the tank look cloudy!!!
Small Jellybean Parrot Cichlids (semi-lengthy)25 Feb 2004 22:06 GMT11
Hello . . . :)
Today I went to the LFS to get a few fish for my newly setup 55. As I was
perusing my choices (not sure which way I wanted to go with this tank) I
found some small "jellybean" parrot cichlids. A few tanks down, there was
Laser Lights???25 Feb 2004 17:25 GMT8
I have seen these around for between 30 to 40 bucks and wanted to know if
any one has tried them.  If they do every thing that they say they do they
would be worth the money.
if you have not seen this yet here is a link to one I found.
Thou shalt not covet thy LFS's polyurethane foam backgrounds25 Feb 2004 15:35 GMT10
Is this an old topic?  Did everyone but me know how expensive these were?
These gorgeous, gorgeous backgrounds are about the prettiest things I've
ever seen, but when he quoted me the cost to do my largest tank - I knew in
a crushing heartbeat I would never own one.  I was thinking ...
persistent white cloudyness in a cycled tank25 Feb 2004 10:19 GMT3
Have a 50 gal with a few goldfish - previously had an ?ich outbreak or
something and used quick cure for 5 days- fed antibiotic food - and used
spectrogram antibiiotic in the water - but only 1 or 2 doses
Anyway - the previous fish died and now have new fish.
Baby Panda Corys25 Feb 2004 09:48 GMT5
I picked up three baby Panda Corys the other day... they are between
1/2 and 3/4 inches at this point.
I found an older article from 2001 about a different species of cory
that says they can take up to two years to reach fully grown.
[Pics] Ever see a Pleco with fins like this25 Feb 2004 04:57 GMT4
I've had my current Pleco for about a month and I just started to notice
that both front fins on my Pleco have started to form some soft of
"bubbles" at the front.  Both front fins look the same and the fish
seems fine otherwise.
Aeration 24/7 good or bad?25 Feb 2004 01:37 GMT11
Have a smallish tank (12 gal) and ran in to a situation that called
for aeration to sort out some water problems.  Added a bubble wand
that runs the length of the tank at the back with an adequately sized
pump.
New Aquaclear 150 craked at intake mounting25 Feb 2004 01:22 GMT11
I have been using a Whisper Jr sized power filter on my 10 gallon for
at least 10 years now.  The filter has never failed me but the media
does not seem to last more than a few weeks before it gets gunky and
it is expensive to replace.  In addition, this old Whisper does NOT
Filling Holes in the "Decoration of Death"25 Feb 2004 00:43 GMT4
I bought a rather nice, and for that matter, pricey, decoration for my
tank that has become known as the "Limb of Death".  It's a ceramic
driftwood piece that stands upright with holes  in the "trunk" where
some of my fish have been going to die.  Now, it may be possible that
eheim filter question24 Feb 2004 10:06 GMT6
Just got an eheim 2026 and I read they are supposed to run quiet - it is -
except every 5-10 minutes - the water makes a "gooshing" sound for 15 - 30
seconds. Can't see any air in tubing and primed the pump a few times and still
the sound.
Angel fish foreplay or fighting?24 Feb 2004 06:14 GMT8
I have a pair of Angels in my tank... only two of them as they have
mated and layed eggs in the past on several occasions.  Anyway, lately
the one that I believe is the male keeps picking on the female and
driving her into the corner of the tank or just chasing her all over
Quarantine Tank24 Feb 2004 06:06 GMT2
I've set up a quarantine tank (6g eclipse) and was wondering other than
quarantining the fish for 3 weeks, is there anything special I should be
doing with this tank?  (I'm checking the fish for visual problems.)
Also, is 3 weeks enough time for quarantining?
Calling Netmax... Fluval 404 noise problem24 Feb 2004 04:47 GMT11
Netmax,
I know you almost swear by these filters... I have one that is about 3
months old... keeps sucking air in somewhere... cycles about a minute
or so apart... gets noisey, then spits out a bunch of air bubbles...
