Setup- 5.5 gallon, good water parameters, VERY heavy plant growth on the bottom of the tank, AquaClear Mini. 4 kuhlis, 1 female betta I've had kuhlis for about 3 years now. Much of the time they seemed to only come out before the lights came on. The other times would be in the late

| Cycle sped up by heat? | 23 Feb 2004 17:49 GMT | 31 |
Setting up the new 55g, I filled it, put in heater, connected canister filter with stock media, let it run for a few days to clear the flourite cloud. When it was clear, I continued to stir up the bottom a bit to keep it from worsening later... 5 days later, heater was tested, ...

| Mgso4 | 23 Feb 2004 14:08 GMT | 5 |
I can get Mgso4 in bag in crystal form from the garden shop. What is the difference between Mgso4 and Mgso4 +7h20? If I have to mix this with water to make Mgso4+7h20 any body know the correct ratio. The ratio for Mgso4+7h20 for PMDD is in grams making it sound like a solid.

Hi, I recently bought new Lemon Tetra fish... I've had them for about a week and I have not seen them eat since. I've tried feeding them the TetraMin Tropical Flakes, Tropical Granules, and Bloodworms but they never ate them. My fish, however,

For the most part, my tank has been doing very well for the past while. Most of the fish are healthy and are behaving normally. The exception is my female Bolivian Ram.

Hi .... Last week I purchased a 2x55w Bright Kit #30552 to retrofit my standard 48" single bulb light strip. I finally had a chance to wire it up today. I also bought two 55w 6700K bulbs. I just came into the room to shut it off for the night (one complaint - no on/off switch - ...

I have seen some dwarf pufferfish at my LFS and would like to get a couple for a spare tank I have. I have never kept fish that require brackish water and am concerned about water changes. I siphon water out of the tank into a bucket & put clean water in the tank using another ...

| Large aquarium question | 22 Feb 2004 15:27 GMT | 7 |
Do large aquariums (750,000 + gallons ones), like Chicago's Shedd, change 20% of their water like any of us? I am curious. It would seem to be extremely expensive (just the salt alone) to do this.

| I got a new filter | 22 Feb 2004 12:56 GMT | 4 |
Which is pretty unremarkable, as people are buying filters all the time, however, this filter might not come out of it's box for a year, or until I need it (if I need it). It's an Emperor 400, and for $59.99 cdn (marked down for liquidation), I just couldn't resist. There is

| eheim media question | 22 Feb 2004 06:15 GMT | 1 |
I just got a 2026 eheim and the instruction book says to rinse all the media in lukewarm water when servicing. Wouldn't this kill off the biobugs in the substrat media (the top layer)?? and the bottom layer as well ?

| Aquaclear 150 too big for a 10 gallon? | 22 Feb 2004 00:34 GMT | 12 |
I have been using a Whisper Jr sized power filter on my 10 gallon for at least 10 years now. The filter has never failed me but the media does not seem to last more than a few weeks and it is expensive to replace. In addition, this old Whisper does NOT have a plastic cover

| Quick ? about Dwarf Gouramis | 22 Feb 2004 00:13 GMT | 5 |
I would like to get a Male Dwarf Gourami and am not sure I can pair him with just one female. I would be adding him to my 10 gallon and only have room to add 2 fish. Are Gouramis like other fish where 1 male needs several females so the breeding attempts are spread out?
