Lighting confusion12 Feb 2004 15:14 GMT3
I've read information regarding lighting levels (watts/gallon etc) but am a
bit confused as to how they relate to flourescent tubes. Is the 30w rating
on a tube it's power consumption or light output, given that a tube outputs
more light than an equivalent wattage tungston bulb?
Algae discovery12 Feb 2004 15:11 GMT1
I'm not sure if anyone's tried this before. I found a new way to remove
algae from aquarium glass last night. Try using an ice scraper , like the
ones used for car windows. Use one that has a flat edge, not serrated. Also
be sure to either rinse it well to remove any traces of ...

In my 55 I've got 3 Oscars who will obviously grow too big for such a small
Nerites Snails11 Feb 2004 01:42 GMT1
I have 4 freshwater black Nerites snails that lay individual eggs on the
glass of my tank and all over the larger leaves of some Amazon Swords.  In six
months with several batches I've never seen these eggs hatch into anything, and
eventually after about 2 months they just fall ...
raising pH and gH 11 Feb 2004 00:14 GMT1
Can I add some crushed coral to my canister filter to help buffer the pH and
raise gH or is it kH?  CC won't affect carbonate hardness will it? or does
it just affect general hardness... I always confuse the 2...
I was thinking of adding it while the tank is being setup to help ...

Hi, I wonder if anyone could give me any info. on the Jelly Bean - Parrot fish.

I'm a complete novice, but have read extensively about starting a new
tank, but...I've come across a problem where all my Internet searching
has been inconclusive.
I got a new tank, a 12g Neo Cube, and a bag of this reddish "Fluorite"

Glo-lite tetras died - were fine an hour ago!10 Feb 2004 16:26 GMT23
Apparently we didn't do something right.
We fed our 4 tiny tetras an hour and a half ago & they did their
normal feeding-frenzy thing.
5 minutes ago my wife heard something jump in the tank.  We looked,

Female guppies giving birth....10 Feb 2004 14:36 GMT7
Should a female guppy that has just given birth ever die from giving
birth? I know giving birth is hard for some animals but my female
guppy just gave birth to around a dozen or so beautiful babies and
died. I think it's great to have these babies now and I guess they
