| Algae ruining hobby for me | 10 Feb 2004 06:11 GMT | 10 |
I have some dark green algae in my tank that is the cause of much anguish. The algae grows so fast that I have to thoroughly scrape my glass and scrub my (plastic) decorations every week when I do my water change.

| Really dumb questions on filter | 10 Feb 2004 05:28 GMT | 5 |
I inherited a "corner" filter. It is just an empty plastic box that sits in the corner and you fill it with "filter wool" and activated carbon. An air pump is attached to draw the water through it. How long does the filter wool last before it needs to be changed?

| Lights on Aquarium DYI Project | 10 Feb 2004 05:20 GMT | 12 |
I'm setting up a 55 gallon tank that is 48" long. I'm making a canopy for the tank. My options are regular T12 bulbs and fixtures that use the newer T8 lights. The T8 lights are smaller in diameter but put out 27% more light and save energy. My questions are:

| Snail assistance | 10 Feb 2004 04:36 GMT | 5 |
I have had foisted upon me, a snail for my small (10-ish gallon) goldfish tank. I have been assured that the snail will be welcomed by the goldfish, and he will putter around merrily. There is an "apple snail" in the betta tank at work, and it's a vigorous and rather

| A little off topic - hopefully not too much.... | 10 Feb 2004 01:28 GMT | 12 |
I have a 55 gallon tank I want to use for three small turtles and some fish. The tank will be about 3/4 full of water and have an island in the middle of it and that island will have real plants from the local greenhouse in it's soil. The island will be supported by a tower of

I was given a 30 gallon freshwater tank and I think I'd like to get a few puffers. Are there any other fish that would be compatible with the puffers? Also does anyone have any helpful info on the puffers since I have never tried them before? Thanks much.

| Filter for low-water-level tank? | 10 Feb 2004 00:54 GMT | 8 |
I've got a ten-gallon sitting in a spot in my apartment where, if I consume a just few more inches of space, I could put a larger tank. What I'd like to do is get a tall tank (24 x 12 x 24) and fill it to about six inches from the top. The airspace would a) provide a better ...

Hey all Was wondering if anyone (and I'm sure someone has) knows how to lower the Ph from about 7.6 to about 6.5 but without any chemicals. I wasn't sure if something like that was worth trying or should I just go with the chemical

| Strange looking guppy babies | 10 Feb 2004 00:39 GMT | 2 |
Last month one of my guppies had babies (yay). At first they all looked like the mother (orangy/yellow and the odd few darker ones). After a couple of days I noticed that one or two had odd tails. The tail is the same length as the normal fanned out one, but triangular, long and ...

| Baby Guppies! | 09 Feb 2004 23:51 GMT | 5 |
I was looking at the two snails in my 20 G and I noticed a tiny fish behind the powerhead! I looked around and found another one. I thought my Guppy was pregnant but yesterday I had noticed that she looked slimmer and her gravid spot smaller. I couldn't find any babies so I

| Looking for good websites, and just amazed by my fish. | 09 Feb 2004 23:17 GMT | 5 |
I am new to the hobby. The only thing I have around my area,(Harrisonburg, VA) is a PETCO and 1 local pet shop. I am interested into looking at some good websites so that I can expand my horizons, as far as additional items for sale that can't be found elsewhere. I would love to ...

| Betta Spawning Technique Help | 09 Feb 2004 15:27 GMT | 8 |
I'm a novice to betta-rearing. I've been trying unsuccessfully to spawn my bettas. Still no luck after 6 to 7 pairings. The main problems I encounter are: 1. The male eats up all the eggs after spawning.
