What chemical is best suited to remove Algea and not hurt the fish? I am talking the green spotty kind. I have a cichlid tank and my plec*s are not doing the job. Anyone know? Thanks!

| Gouramis not Kissing | 26 Apr 2004 04:45 GMT | 2 |
Hello. Yesterday one of the area's more esteemed LFSs had an anniversary sale so I trekked across town to stock up on filters and frozen food and such, as well as some fish. They were buy 2 get the third free. I picked up a Scarletti Shrimp and I also picked up 2 kissing ...

| Diatom filters | 25 Apr 2004 07:44 GMT | 14 |
After unsuccesfully dealing with persistent green water and cloudy water issues in my tank for the last few months, I broke down and bought a Vortex D-1 diatom filter today. Quite frankly, I am amazed by this thing. Within 1 hour, my water turned from a hazy green, to

| MTS and Filters | 24 Apr 2004 14:30 GMT | 11 |
I've got a 10g that has tons of MTS in it, churning up the sand.... I've recently noticed, that they're getting into the filter, and they literally clean the filter... To the extent, there is no green gunk on it... Is that weird or good?

I'll need to get a new heater sometime in the next month and was wondering if any of you had preferences or horror stories to share. :) I'm partial to the submersible heaters.. Kinda eyeballing the Hagen Thermal Compact (200W). Thoughts?

| What did I do wrong? | 23 Apr 2004 19:09 GMT | 18 |
I have a 20 gal tank with 3 orange tetras, 3 lemon tetras and 2 algae eaters. I noticed the water getting slightly turbid and proceeded to rinse off the filter, and I added some water clarifier (5mL). A couple of hours later the three lemon tetras were dead. The other fish were ...

| Breeding Guppies | 22 Apr 2004 19:29 GMT | 4 |
I've had guppies recreationally most of my life and have never done anything special to get them to breed. Just place a male and a female in a tank and babies come. I'm wondering if there is any benefit in conditioning the water or feeding

| Help! plans for feeding time filter swicther offer and on again thingy!!!!!! | 22 Apr 2004 18:50 GMT | 9 |
A while back, and in fact a few time I believe there has been mention of someone who has built a device for switching off the filters for 5 (or a configurable amount of) minutes and then turning them back on again. The number of times I forget to switch back on my powerhead. While ...

| Parasites in Tank | 22 Apr 2004 16:38 GMT | 4 |
I noticed recently very small critter crawling on the glass above the water line in my tank, as well as sort of hopping on the surface of the water. I can't seem to see any below the water line. They are very small, so small I can barely tell they are critters until they move. They ...
