| Beard algae goes purple | 07 May 2004 04:20 GMT | 2 |
In the continuing saga of the upgrade of my tanks, I have come across what I believe to be a first. Dark beard algae goes bright alien psychedelic pink/purple when dried. To prepare my fish for the move from the old tank, Saturday I removed almost

| Activated Carbon | 06 May 2004 09:36 GMT | 7 |
Sorry should have put this in my last post. Whilst reading through the documentation for the Rena Filstar XP it came with a bag of activated carbon and it said that the filter must have a bag in place and changed every 4-12 weeks. Now I only use carbon to strip old medicines out, ...

| American Flag Fish - help | 06 May 2004 02:58 GMT | 4 |
I had a wicked case of beard algae and I tried everything to get rid of it. Finally, I had my LFS order me 4 American flag fish. In the last 4 weeks they've completely eliminated the problem. The trouble is now they have nothing left to eat. They don't seem to eat the flake food ...

| Help my only fully cycled filter died | 05 May 2004 23:37 GMT | 3 |
Hi, I have a 20 gallon tank w/ a Penguin Bio-Wheel 125. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed the Penguin was starting to die. About a week and half ago, I put a Liberty Ehiem onto the tank. I was going to leave the Penguin on the tank until the Eheim was cycled. My Penguin has just

| Refilling your tank(s) | 05 May 2004 23:14 GMT | 6 |
I don't know what most folks do, but I quickly grew tired of heaving buckets of water up on top of my desk to refill my 15-gallon tank--and I haven't even started on my 40-gallon one yet! In addition, I mention this because I thought it could be of use to some, though I am not in ...

Hi NetMax, I just wanted to add some comments about your Continuous Gravel Vacuum design. I had gotten some ideas from you a couple of weeks/month ago about how to simplify priming a canister filter, and the design is virtually identical to your Figure 2 in the Continuous Gravel ...

| A REAL shock at PETCO | 05 May 2004 14:05 GMT | 7 |
I swear this never happens. So a couple of weeks ago I walk into PetCo and find they they have stopped selling their bettas in the hideously small 6 oz cups and have switched them to more economical 3 oz cups (about the size of the

| Betta "just sits there" | 05 May 2004 03:21 GMT | 18 |
I bought my son a betta just over a month ago, and I'm finding his behavior a bit puzzling. He just sort of 'sits' on rocks on the bottom of the tank. He'll occasionally move from spot to spot, but, generally, that's the way he

| Cloudy 1-mo tank Revisited | 05 May 2004 02:05 GMT | 6 |
Sorry to take up anyone's time ;-) Frustrated that the cloud still wasn't easing up while the chemistry remains solid the same and good, I stepped back for a second and thought "outside the box" just a tiny little bit and realized that my dumb self

Was as usual, browsing(read=drooling) over this one tank stocked full of these little beauts... I couldn't find the SKU sticker for it, so I asked someone who I'd never seen before(read=spends too much time there, I know almost everybody) and asked him for a price on these little ...
