Here's my situation: I'm returning to the hobby after a long (40 year) hiatus. Present setup is a 10 g tank running for the past 30 days, so I hope it has now 'cycled'. 2" gravel substrate with a few rocks for

| Angels - feeding fry | 19 Jun 2004 15:51 GMT | 1 |
Much to my surprise yesterday, I found some Angel fry attached to a large leaf in my aquarium. I cut the leave off and placed it in a breeding trap. The fry are still fidgeting around toady and my concern is what should I feed them. I could possible move them to another aquarium, ...

| Yellow Labs and Blue Zebras | 19 Jun 2004 10:33 GMT | 3 |
At my LFS, these two cichlids look so colorful and vibrant and would make a really nice addition to my tank. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with their aggression levels. I know that as cichlids they are less-community firendly, but I've seen a number of

| Fishless cycling and smelly water | 19 Jun 2004 08:38 GMT | 2 |
I recently got an 80 gallon tank & have been using ammonia according to the instructions for fishless cycling. It's been going really well, it's been about two weeks and my nitrites are now spiking. The ammonia is still quite high so I've cut way back on adding any more. Today I ...

When it rains it pours. I need to set up a cot in the corner here, the way things have been going :(. Tomorrow is 2 weeks that I moved and drove 1,300 miles with my 2 male Betta fish. This past Saturday I noticed one was not coming up to eat but didn't think much of it.

I have a betta who has a very tattered tail... I think he must have scraped it up against the plants or something. Will the fin repair itself and/or grow back? Thanks

| Plumbing Help | 18 Jun 2004 03:04 GMT | 5 |
I'm doing a little plumbing for my filter system based on some inspiration from Netmax's website. OK, I'm stealing it wholesale. I even printed out his sketches to work from. They say plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery 8-).

I'm attempting to breed Sailfin tetra, Crenuchus sp, and I think I may have had them spawn once, but I never got any fry. I'd be interested in hearing any experiences other people have had with spawning this tetra. Even accounts of failed attempts are

| Fish that need filters | 17 Jun 2004 04:28 GMT | 14 |
...soapbox warning There is no such thing as a fish which must have a filter, anymore than there is a type of fish which does not need a filter. From a biological perspective, any fish can be maintained in an aquarium without a filter

| algea control again:) | 16 Jun 2004 16:20 GMT | 17 |
I don't think I should get any live algea eaters because of the tank size, so what would y'all recommend? I've got the 5 gal hex in the office with a betta and two african dwarf frogs. It's the eclipse system with the light & filter built into the hood.

| Ammonia readings/Mardel Coppersafe | 16 Jun 2004 16:06 GMT | 1 |
I have found that I get false and excessively high ammonia readings when using Mardel Coppersafe in my tropical freshwater aquarium. The test kit I use is an Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Salicylate FW test kit. I did a test before adding the coppersafe and had a zero reading.
