Naive Beginner lol05 Jun 2004 16:56 GMT1
Hi everyone, I'm just starting out on the long road to buying tropical fish,
I have a tank, got a mate who knows a little about things, but I really need
some beginners information..... any suggestions on websites and newsgroups

Bio Wheel not turning05 Jun 2004 11:15 GMT17
I have two Marineland 330 power filters on my 75 gallon tank.  The
wheels occasionally stop turning.  By wiping my finger along the
spillway, the wheels usually start turning again.
However, one of the 4 wheels is getting harder to get to turn.
snails vs loach04 Jun 2004 23:10 GMT10
Planted tank, don't mind the snails but they're getting a bit much, and
I know they're a significant percentage of the bio-load now (hundreds of
mostly malaysian ones).  Turn the gravel over nicely, but I'm thinking
about reducing the numbers.
Cleaning filter cartridges04 Jun 2004 14:21 GMT1
I have a lifeguard canister filter, I just changed the cartridge and I am
wondering can i clean the old cartridge? If so how? it is a brand new cartridge
only used for 1 month. also there are now bubbles coming out of the hose that
is connected to the filter and the pressure gage is ...
Best fish film?04 Jun 2004 11:44 GMT6
I had a brief flashback of "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" earlier, and I
started wondering what the best fish based movie of all time would be.
So far I've come up with Finding Nemo, Jaws, Splash, Big fish, a few
stupid others, and of course The Incredible Mr. Limpet.
tetra medicated food?04 Jun 2004 05:04 GMT8
One more question -- Frank in alt.aquaria recommended medicated food to
me, and I've seen a few others make the same recommendation.
Unfortunately, I can't find it *anywhere*.  Does anyone know of an on-line
vendor that carries medicated tropical fish food?
Compatibility04 Jun 2004 04:32 GMT1
Anyone know any reasons why silver dollars and discus can't go in the same
tank? 640L tank.

Please help with a new tank set-up04 Jun 2004 01:09 GMT1
I am setting up a new tank and am totally overwhelmed by the
information I've learned through reading and research.  I think I have
an idea of how to be successful but welcome any ideas and experienced
opinions about my plans.
orange peels03 Jun 2004 12:48 GMT4
Cats cant stand the smell of oranges. if you grate some orange peel and rub
it around the pond the cats wont go near it. Test it on your cat first by
scratching an orange and place your hand near the cats face. it also works
to keep strays from using your flower bed as a community ...
Help, rusty brown stuff growing in my tank!03 Jun 2004 10:31 GMT8
A month ago, I thought one of my plants had been burned by too much
light.  It was dark brown/black on the top of the ferns.  It had the
problem with no ill effects for over a month, but I decided to moved
it to a corner of the aquarium hoping it would do better, fool me.  At
Coppersafe and plants03 Jun 2004 04:47 GMT3
I have some mardel coppersafe.  On the back it says it may be harmful to
plants.  Anyone know if it is and which plants?  The only other tank i can
put my plants in is full of snails.  W.
Freshwater bluegill tank03 Jun 2004 03:59 GMT3
I have a 180 gallon tank with bluegill in it that I have been feeding
minnows from the local bait store for about 2 months without a
problem, yesterday I noticed what looks like little tiny air bubbles
all over them, it doesn't look like ich was wondering if anybody had
Sick Peacock Eel03 Jun 2004 03:14 GMT2
I have two juvenile peacock eels which I rarely see.  (Actually, I
assume I have two, but I only see one at a time)  The eels hide in the
substrate and are occasionally rousted when I vacuum the gravel.  On
the weekend, one of the eels was seen swimming around the back of the
Tap water purifier02 Jun 2004 15:35 GMT12
I live in Sweden and I'm planning a trip to the States this summer. I
would like to avoid all the chlorine and other stuff Americans get from
the tap. I would prefer a good mobile tap water purifier.
Do you have any tips on a good one?
A non fish problem... :)02 Jun 2004 10:30 GMT8
This group is very full of Fish problems (not a bad thing) so I thought I'd
add a different spin...
While reading these threads, if I see any new names of fish, I go and check
them out on various sites... When I first looked up mollies, I thought they
