buffering ph by adding minerals20 Sep 2004 00:42 GMT23

towards a certain value, that value being different depending exactly
which mineral(s) you add, but does anyone know what will buffer to a
ph of 7?

Plastic plants that killed my guppies!18 Sep 2004 21:04 GMT2
I am a newbie fish and aquarium owner and I think my plastic plants are
killing my beloved guppies... or at least contributed to it.
Here's my sequence of events.
1) New tank setup. 21L tropical temp., small filter box. Crushed quartz rock
follow up: female betta with female dwarf gourami in community tank17 Sep 2004 22:10 GMT8
Well, the LFS never did order the female bettas from me, so i ended up
getting one at Meijer's (a food/clothing/everything store).  i added 1
fake plant and let it float at the surface incase they didn't get a
long, so there would be more hiding areas.  anyway, as far as i've

I am hoping someone has an answer to this question...
I have a molly who over the last 3 months has developed black dots.
Not just one or two but all over its body. These dots are not moving
Blanket Weed17 Sep 2004 08:28 GMT2
We have a fairly new pond of about 8 weeks, the pool stays very clear
as we have an ultra voilet light, and an air machine and pump.  But we
seem to have picked up blanket weed we don't know if it came on a
plant we bought or if this is a common problem with ponds, any advise
Inexplicable, repeated pH crashes!17 Sep 2004 08:17 GMT3
I have a 12g NanoCube, with live plants, a very well-functioning
biological filter (no ammonia or nitrites at all, except a tiny spike
when I change water because of the broken-down chloramine--that fades
to 0 in a few hours). I have 5 lively Golden Barbs, and used to have 2

Long Rambling on Local Fish Stores and  BORGs16 Sep 2004 21:34 GMT4
I've had just a little experience with buying fish lately, but I've got a
lot retail experience, and from both sides of the checkout counter I might
add.  Dances with Ferrets and some others were answering my question
regarding the obligation of the retailer to "stand behind their ...

I have 3 columbian sharks which are 3-4".  When I first got them they
swam constantly all over the tank and went nuts at feeding time.  The
last few weeks they started staying in a small area in the corner of
the tank and only eat food after its been laying on the bottom for
New Dwarf Puffers16 Sep 2004 12:35 GMT4
Tonight I finally picked up a couple of Dwarf Puffer Fish.  Although
apparently these ones are fresh water puffers, they were being kept in
brackish water at Petsmart,  so they're in brackish water in their new home
too.  When I was at another pet store a few weeks ago they had ...
sick fish16 Sep 2004 08:01 GMT5
I am new to having an aquarium. I bought a tank (System 6) about 2 months
ago. After setting up the tank and leaving it for about 3 days I went out
and got some fish. I got two endlers and a little catfish. Everything has
been going well for 5 weeks. I have noticed lately that ...
