Nitrate removal equipment05 Oct 2004 14:40 GMT6
I have a Nitrate removal tool that has been sat in the attic for about 7
years. It is called a Nitra-king and is made by a company called Kingfisher.
It is simply an in-line filter that presumably contains some exchange resin
that can be recharged with brine.
phosphate & baking soda05 Oct 2004 14:31 GMT6
I'm raising the pH of my acid water (6.4 - 7.4) using baking soda. Is there
any phosphate in this as I'm getting an algae bloom?

New study on UK public aquaria05 Oct 2004 10:12 GMT29
For those that may be interested, a study on UK public aquaria has
been recently published by two British organisations.
The Captive Animals’ Protection Society published one study
referring the whole of the UK public aquarium industry, and it can be
eheim aquaball??05 Oct 2004 04:13 GMT5
does anyone have any experience of the eheim aquaball filters?
I like mine a lot, but the (small) top filter chamber has a nasty
gloopy thing in it that obviously needs replacing. I think it must be a
specialist filter medium, but I really can't see that I need this.
Saying goodbye to Algae04 Oct 2004 16:26 GMT1
To all those people who, at one time or another, have had algae
problems in their fresh water aquarium, I'd like to share a rather
simple method I used to totally eraticate my algae epidemic.
Like many other people who have had this problem, I went to my local
Weird well water04 Oct 2004 12:50 GMT8
I set up a 75 gallon tank two weeks ago at which time I added a half
cup of pure ammonia as I am attemping the "fishless cycling" routine.
My test kit shows ammonia at 3ppm, ph at 8.5, hardness and alkylinity
are maxxed out.  There are no nitrites and a bit of nitrates.  This is
Check your thermometer daily04 Oct 2004 10:32 GMT3
Just a reminder to check your tank temperature every day. I was just
doing a little cleaning on my ten gallon Betta tank and noticed that
the water was really cold. I checked the thermomenter, and sure enough,
tank temperature was just under 70 degrees.
filter head04 Oct 2004 08:42 GMT15
I'm trying to understand what exactly is meant by the head (of water) a
filter wuill work to.
Is it the difference, in height, between the inlet & outlet relative to each
other or is it the actual max height the filter will pump to even if the
Does Fungus = Death?04 Oct 2004 01:25 GMT8
I mentioned the other day I had a big black neon tetra that had an abrasion
on its side, which now appears white and fluffy.  Someone said it sounds
like a fungus.  Not having a quarantine tank, what are my options for a 55
gal tank, sparsely populated as yet?  Is this fish a goner ...

Sick fish for no apparent reason03 Oct 2004 18:57 GMT3
I have a ten gallon tank that is undergoing a little disaster. I have a
dwarf Gourami, 3 platys, 1 danio and i added a blue ram to the community
about a week ago. All of the sudden one of the platys, the danio and the
blue ram are not doing so good. The danio is very bloated, to ...
