Start of the Nitrogen Cycle11 Nov 2004 16:32 GMT9
I bought a 10 gallon Top Fin hexagonal aquarium starter kit about a month
ago.  At the same time, I bought 10 pounds of gravel, a couple of plastic
plants and a castle-looking thing to place on the bottom of the aquarium.
When I got home, I set up the filter, lid, etc. as instructed ...
Sea Monkeys11 Nov 2004 03:52 GMT10
I actually got this saved in a TXT. I cut and pasted this a few years
back, it is how to set up a gallon tank using seamonkey products.
<snip>
First off, for a 1 gallon tank, you're gonna need to buy 4 packets of
Penguin fish belly up11 Nov 2004 03:23 GMT2
I have a bunch of penguin fish (Thayeria boehlkei) and a pl*co in a
quarantine tank. The tank has proper temperature, aeration, filtering, and
decent chemistry, and the crowd seemed to be doing well.
One of the penguin fish managed to get out the tank during a water change,
Cheap vs. Expensive Angels11 Nov 2004 02:26 GMT5
I was in one of the huge pet shops earlier and they had two large angels for
$11.99 each!  These are not the "assorted" marble angels, but the "old
fashioned" striped ones whose name escapes me.  These are not fully grown,
but the bodies are about the size of a dollar bill folded in ...
Spotting a healthy Angelfish11 Nov 2004 02:25 GMT2
Another thought on these fish:  I've noticed that my healthy angel always
had a very erect and "fanned out" top fin (dorsal fin?).  When I look at
some larger angels in the fish store, very often this top fin is closed down
and is kind of laying down rather than sticking up like a ...
massive sickness.11 Nov 2004 01:56 GMT1
I posted this to the other group as well, but there sometimes seem to be
more people here, so I will post this here as well.....
Boy, did I learn my lesson.  I bought some more fish - 5 Buenos Aires
tetras - to put in with my blue gourami, 5 pink kissing gourami, yellow
Canister filter malfunctioning10 Nov 2004 11:55 GMT1
We came back from a long weekend to find a few dead fish and the output
of the canister filter barely there. I assumed it was just the usual,
the prefilter had clogged, so I cleaned it. Nope, still very little
water out. Open the stand and the filter is making a weird noise. Take ...
mollies dying09 Nov 2004 23:34 GMT6
I am new to this aquarium stuff. On the weekend I had my tank(10 gal)
water tested and everything was fine, the pet shop said it was okay to add
more fish. I already had 2 goldfish in the tank so I added a gourami, a
siamese fighting fish and 2 mollies. The female only lasted 24 ...
KILLING ALGAE09 Nov 2004 21:20 GMT3
To all those who have algae problems whether it is of the red, green,
brown, black, or hairy type, consider this:
BEFORE you got out and purchase phosphase inhibitors like GREEN-X or
ROWAPHOS, get your water tested for phosphate levels.  If the
Sea Monkeys - Honest!09 Nov 2004 20:41 GMT11
I want to start a 1 gal. aquarium of sea monkeys. I had
the starter set (12 oz) a couple of years ago but managed
to kill them all with my ignorance.
My problem is that I can only get small packets of "water
question regarding Ich treatment09 Nov 2004 10:44 GMT4
Folks;
I've had an outbreak of Ich in my tank, and am using QuickCure.  Have dosed
two treatments so far.
The newsgroup-recommended treatment that I know of is to follow the bottle
potassium permanganate09 Nov 2004 08:54 GMT7
I would like to know, how to use this to desinfect a tank with no fish.
I have bought some, and have googled it, and it only has info on dips
and ponds not really tanks. When the tank is to be done the fish will be
in a aback up cycled tank. I only purchased 4 oz.
Can You Identify These Fish?09 Nov 2004 06:34 GMT3
I was given two fish, and all I know about them is they are freshwater fish.
I took a few photos and posted them at
http://www.polar.icestorm.com/sfl/misc/fish.htm
Please take a look and identify them if you can. I would appreciate the
betta tank09 Nov 2004 00:47 GMT6
Well, I got the 10 gallon betta tank all planted (heavily), set up with
heater and filter, and two males (separated) moved in yesterday.
My question is on the filter.  I was not going to use one, as some may
remember, but it was pointed out to me that I needed something to
bugs in my aquarium08 Nov 2004 23:24 GMT1
Hey guys-
I have a ten gallon aquarium with five cardinal tetras, java moss,
drift wood and lacey java fern.
I have noticed that I also have a fair number of "bugs" that reside in
