sick gourami mystery31 Dec 2004 19:13 GMT5
My powder blue gourami just died (I'd had it for 2 months - then tank has
been running for a year)and I can't figure out why. I've got a heavily
planted 30g tank, the gourami, 1 platy, 12 neon tetras, 1 cory cat, 4 zebra
loaches. Water temp=80 degF, no ammonia, no nitrates, safe ...
Farcata Rainbow Fish31 Dec 2004 17:00 GMT8
Anybody know anything about Farcata Rainbows?  Soooo pretty - about an
inch long, long very bright yellow fins, very playful and busy.
Are they good community fish?  Where can I find out more about them?  I
think I'd like to have about five of them for the upper midlevel of the
Petstore recommendation - Northern VA31 Dec 2004 16:22 GMT5
Can anyone recommend a good petstore in Northern Virginia/Washington DC
for picking up freshwater fish?  I moved here from out of town and have
been unable to locate a good aquarium.
Thanks!

quarantine question30 Dec 2004 11:37 GMT5
I plan to buy my first live plant and I'm also going to buy some dwarf
frogs. Is it necessary to put these in a quarantine tank like you do with
new fish?
I'm hoping not, since I don't have anything appropriate at the moment...
aquarium photos30 Dec 2004 02:58 GMT12
I've been trying to take some pictures of my planted aquarium with a
digital camera.  I've tried with and without the flash.  They always
come out blurry.  I didn't try turning the tank lights off and using the
flash because it would just reflect off the glass.
Please help: How to keep clean water in tank and other problems  :((29 Dec 2004 22:47 GMT6

bizarre jumping behavior!29 Dec 2004 20:03 GMT2
I've noticed that one of my gold barbs keeps on swimming furiously
towards my filter outlet (where the stream is at its fastest) and then
jumping up, smacking his face against the plastic screen of my lamp. It
seems like he's having fun, but is this normal? He's literally

Neolamprologus brevis = Neolamprologus calliurus???28 Dec 2004 04:45 GMT4
I just noticed that Fishbase and Eschmeyer lists Neolamprologus
calliurus as a junior synonym of Neolamprologus brevis.
Does anyone have any info on this, um, "surprising" turn of events?
AFAIK calliurus is up to 8 cm long, has a lyre tail, and is a harem
wattage for plant growth28 Dec 2004 01:42 GMT19
Hey guys,
I have a 37 gallon eclipse that I want to plant extensively.  I was
advised by my LFS to buy two new "special" bulbs - they're 20 watts
each and apparently give off some sort of bluish light that should also
1 Zebra Danio baby27 Dec 2004 22:39 GMT3
Several weeks ago I discovered 1 baby that some how made it long enough in
the tank to be big enough to see. I seperated him although he seemed to be
doing well somehow. He was swimming around with the 4 ot 5 adults I have.
Now I'm wondering since he has gotten a little bigger, ...
water treatment questions?27 Dec 2004 15:52 GMT1
Wondering about various methods to treat your water for hardness?
We have hard water from our well, and the only thing that it leaves us with
is a high GH and KH rating, which also affects the PH.
Do aquarium stores sell products to deal with your water for water changes?
Angel Fish Aggressiveness27 Dec 2004 03:05 GMT4
I have 6 angels in a 55 gallon octagonal tank and no other fish.  2 o
them are larger (bodies about the size of a half dollar) and the other
are just marginally smaller.  I had 4, and then purchased two ne
chocolate angels a few weeks ago.  The two larger Angelfish chase th
