I was hoping someone could give me an idea about the differences between  -
ammo lock - zeolite - nitrazorb - purigen - or anything else in this general
family?  I don't know how they work.  My primary interest is inevitably
reducing nitrates.  Ammonia and nitrites are never a ...
Status report, or "where's Mandy"27 Jan 2005 19:55 GMT11
I liked reading the daily reports we got from Mandy.  In her absence,
and her honor, I'll be doing a daily report on my algae problem.  Since
I'm a bit behind, Monday thru Thurs. will all show up today.

DIY Tank Stand27 Jan 2005 02:12 GMT25
Hi group - Well, I have tried to research this but I am spending quite a
while making little progress.  Your comments or direction would be greatly
appreciated. I am wanted to build a cheap standard 29 gal tank stand. What I
am imagining would be essentially using 2x4's - 2 ...
Platy babies26 Jan 2005 15:15 GMT2
3 or 4 baby platys have survived for about 10 days now in my community tank.
They are still quite small (about 1/2 cm) & beige.  When do they start to
show their colours?  I think they're too big to be eaten now (I hope!) and
as these are my first ones I'm curious about how they ...
Mono in freshwater26 Jan 2005 12:55 GMT2
Can adult Monos live in freshwater?  If so, what kind of water?
Thanks
corys and substrate26 Jan 2005 12:52 GMT3
My newly/barely cycled 50-gallon bowfront has 2 dwarf Flame gouramis in
it.  Time for some more fish!  Here are some photos of my tank:
I would like to add either 4 Rainbowfish or 6 Corys next (not both
groups at once, though).  Which would be the better choice for my next

Angelfish Mouth Disease26 Jan 2005 10:31 GMT2
I just finished goooogling my brains out and could not find any serious
discussion or solutions.  I just lost an Altum a few weeks ago because it's
lips / mouth was so swollen (about the size of a pencil eraser) that it
could not eat.  Now in the last few days another Altum is ...
Time is limited for AOL'ers26 Jan 2005 00:21 GMT8
Well anyone that has AOL just got a notice saying that our access to these
newsgroups will be cut off in "early 05".
So if any of us from AOL just up and disappear....you know what happened. = /
Only AOL knows how long we still have, and they aren't telling.
Tank mates25 Jan 2005 23:38 GMT6
As just mentioned, I am starting a new tank.  It currently has 3 smallish
Lemon Tetras.
 1) How active should they be?  Thus far they are not hiding but are pretty
passively slowly moving around the tank in a group.  I don't know if this is
Glow in the Dark Aquarium Rocks25 Jan 2005 19:30 GMT2
I thought you guys may be interested that Glow Inc. is running a
one-week half price sale for it's Glow in the Dark Aquarium Rocks.
These are made from the strontium-aluminate pigments that literally
glow all night.  Without the sale, these rocks are extremely expensive.
Aquatic plant food25 Jan 2005 12:23 GMT5
The woman at my local pet store said that I needed plant food for my
Elodea densa, is this true, and what kind should I purchase?  All of my
plants are either floating to give pregnant fish and babies places to
hide, or anchored with very small glass bottles, for I have bare glass
snails and african cichlids25 Jan 2005 12:23 GMT1
I have a couple of ramshorn snails to give away, and a friend said she'd
take them, but they'd be going into a tank with a lone african cichlid.
Would they stand a chance?  Thanks! Allison
