| Stingray Pleco (Hillstream Loach) | 13 Jan 2005 10:49 GMT | 4 |
Have any of you had (or have) any of these? Very skitish little guy, but I noticed that he changes color (at least some). I have a few golf balls in the tank and when he's on one cleaning it, he gets very light colored (usually pretty dark). Just thought I'd share.

Short story: my new iridescent sharks are very lethargic. Long story: Old tank, held (only) four previous sharks who lived from 14-22 years old. Last one died a couple of months ago at age 22. I let the tank keep running for a couple weeks until I had time to

What small fish is the best food source for North American native fish (like bass, bluegill, crappie) etc? I was thinking shiners, but did some research, and apparently they are not. Perhaps some sort of chub? Thanks

| Dwarf Gourami Bites - Literally! | 11 Jan 2005 23:42 GMT | 2 |
My dwarf Gouramis do the water spitting, lip smacking thing when the cover is open - demanding food. They now take food out of your hand and nibble your fingers. I thought this was "cute" until today. I was changing the water when one tried to get my attention by spitting at

| Becoming a Hobbyist! | 11 Jan 2005 06:44 GMT | 4 |
Hello, I emailed this group a couple of months ago regarding water quality (wondering whether to use untreated tap, softened tap, or RO water in my kids' 10-gallon tanks). Thanks to all for the great responses. I followed your testing advice, and I also decided to

| Aeration? | 11 Jan 2005 01:32 GMT | 2 |
Well, my new 50-g bow-front is up and running. No fish yet until we get our parameters adjusted. I have an under-mount filter called a "Fluval 404." It sits on the floor, outside the tank (underneath in the tank stand), and it connects through 2 hoses. There is a spout

| Overweight Betta ??? | 10 Jan 2005 13:26 GMT | 3 |
I have a Betta who is a wee bit obese,... And I'm wondering if it is really fat, or could it be a tumour of some kind. I don't know the names of Betta anatomy, but from just behind his small side fins he has a round gut, like as if he's swallowed a pea. He eats well, but he

| A quick question about water pH | 10 Jan 2005 12:31 GMT | 3 |
I'm having a hard time finding a conclusive answer to this one. I run off well water, the conditions are as follows: Through the water softener I get a 6.8-7.0 pH immediately from the tap. If I let the water sit on the counter for several hours the water

| Red spots | 10 Jan 2005 09:43 GMT | 2 |
My swordtail has a red spot on her head and other parts of her body. Her fins look like they are rotting and she is not swimming right. Any ideas of what may cause this. Also, my pleco is dying. He hasn't eaten in a week and he has no energy to move any longer. :-(

| Neon Tetra Trouble | 09 Jan 2005 18:09 GMT | 31 |
I have a 44 gallon pent tank that I am trying to use as a community tank after about a year as an oscar tank. I can't seem to keep neon's alive though. I have heard that they like a pH around 6.5-6.8. Are they very sensitive to this?
